For years now, I've tried to find a photo of Herman Reinshagen with no luck but I left enough inquiries around the internet that his grand nephew, Terry Grissino, contacted me and sent me this photo. Herman C. Reinshagen was a student of Ludwig Manoly and was a great pedagogue with students as Charles Mingus, Gary Karr, Al McKibbon and Fred Zimmerman. Al McKibbon went to California in 1958 to study under Mr. Reinshagen when Al was already a very seasoned professional bassist, which shows you how important it was to receive Reinshagen's tutelage. At one point in the 50s, the entire Los Angeles Philharmonic bass section were all his students! Mr. Reinshagen was born Feb 1878 in Germany, died 1962 in Glendale, CA
