i play within my comfort zone if its an easy set of notes all bunched together i'll have a look round and see if i can spy any eye candy or see if i can annoy the drummer etc:p
if however i'm playing something more complex thats moving around the board a little then i look down to make sure i'm in the right fret and in the sweet spot of the fret after all it doesnt matter how cool you look when you aim for D and hit D#:scowl:

besides if you'd seen the state of some of the crowds i've played in front of you'll realise why i watch my fingers.... its coz their a damn site better looking than the crowd :crying:
 
There have been bar fights take place from start to finish, right in the middle of the dance floor, and I was none the wiser because I'd be staring at my fretting hand... I've tried for awhile now to pay better attention to my surroundings.
