New member. Joined up but not new to music forums. I picked up bass about 3 - 4 years ago & have been enjoying it a LOT more than the 16+ years I put in with guitar. Not that I didn't like guitar but it never came as musically easy as bass does. While I could play rhythm when solo time came I'd just look at the board & go "um....duh...".
On bass I can do a lot more AND still keep the ground floor!
Rig-wise I've still got my starter bass: an Ibanez 4-string Soundgear, played thru a 200w Fender BXR head & Ampeg 4x8. Yep, 4 by EIGHT. Great cab but I'm hoping to upgrade to maybe a 4x10 or add on a 2x12 or 1x15. All Ampeg, of course!
On the list of "things to get" is also a compressor stomp box, DI box, & Patitucci's 2-DVD opus on bass, mainly b/c he covers Latin bass & I recently joined a Latin-rock band.
Stylistically I come from a Zeppelin/Rush/Maiden background so I keep the rhythm while adding flourishes. Happy to say in the last few months I caught some Jaco on YouTube & went: ***!?! THAT'S BITCHIN!!!!
Good times!
