Hi everyone, new to Talk Bass, and relatively new bass player(less than 3 years, I've been playing acoustic guitar for 24 years and piano for 33 years). Out of the 3 instruments bass has become my favorite to play. So far I've owned an American Fender Jazz 4 string but am looking to move to 5 strings soon. I play the most at home for fun but do play at my church on a regular basis. I look forward to contributing to the bass community here.

Welcome! I support making the leap to 5 strings early on in your experience. Lots of folks here will say you should focus on one or the other (4 vs 5) but I’m here to say that you can learn to switch back and forth if you make a conscious choice and practice with both. Good luck!
