Hi-Beams vs. Fat beams

This thread is 10 years old lol
But uh... Hi-Beams for life if you want bright and piano chime
Fat beams for more body to your tone. Im glad to see the old threads getting bumped. The guys on here need to make up thier minds, on 1 hand they talk smack on every old thread that gets bumped years later while they also cry about starting new threads on the same topic. Tb logic should be a meme. Lol

Posted this in another old thread regarding DR strings…

Had the hi beams on for a month or so and have been digging the tone and feel. Decided to throw fat beams on while the hi beams were still fresh to do a good comparison. For those interested, fat beams sound like hi beams if you turn the treble down a hair and then the bass up a hair. Nothing extremely different. Tension and flexibility has no discernible difference to me. Made zero chances to my setup/action.

What I do notice, however, is the fat beams are quite a bit more comfortable due to the slower winding. Hi beams are a bit “grabby” on my fingers. Fat beams are smoother and make faster passages and slides a bit more seamless. I think you could interchange these strings with minor EQ changes and be perfectly happy. The slower wound/tighter winding gives the fat beams a leg up for me!

I did a similar comparison to DieTired about 10 yrs ago. Went from Fat to Hi and after playing the Hi's for about a month went back to the Fats as I appreciated their tone better. You got the benefit of a bright string but with more booty. I've moved on from Fats due to wanting a higher tensioned string.
