Who would be the go-to high end repair resources for Indiana? A customer referral photo shows a large oblong hole knocked out of a Pollman.

If around central Indiana I'd go to Cincinnati Bass Cellar. Northern IN go to Chicago and pick your favorite.

  3. +1 for CBC. If you're near Bloomington, our local luthier Stephen Schock is an excellent craftsman and has done a fair amount of bass work, including my own couple of instruments.

Good to know. I've been to the shop to check out an older German bass for sale.

I will let the distraught owner of the Pollman know her options. Thanks !!

  6. Last time I was there, he had a beautiful violin-shaped, red-label Juzek for sale. His most recent work for me was patching a web of c-bout cracks that occurred when the bass fell against the seat of a heavy concert stage stool. He did an amazing and very clean repair job, fishing linen through the f-hole and avoiding a top removal. A few years back, he put an extension on my other bass and did a perfect job; got the action and string height absolutely precise. One of my former classmates is a local working pro and gives him high praise for his bass work.

Could be the same bass if it had a fairly rough neck splice?

  8. I believe that's the one. I remember it was a beautiful sight... until I saw the neck. Never heard the history behind that instrument.

I actually looked into a scroll graft, but too much $$$ for that and the bass.
