+1 for CBC. If you're near Bloomington, our local luthier Invalid Link Removed is an excellent craftsman and has done a fair amount of bass work, including my own couple of instruments.

Last time I was there, he had a beautiful violin-shaped, red-label Juzek for sale.
Could be the same bass if it had a fairly rough neck splice?
I believe that's the one. I remember it was a beautiful sight... until I saw the neck. Never heard the history behind that instrument.
