High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread

I bought a Mesa Rosette DI/Preamp (with a built in variable HPF control) this past week. I get the HPF value now. Tightened up the low end on my Fender CS single coil P bass, but the magic really happened when I plugged in my Turner Electroline (has a piezo and 2 mag pickups). Big difference in the low end. Bottom was still there but the "boomy" was reduced greatly, if not gone. I've been reading this thread since it started...thanks for all the great info.

That's the way.

It's interesting that you are using a wireless and HPF. Just yesterday afternoon I was wondering how that would work. I know a lot of the digital 2.4Ghz wireless systems are supposed have a frequency response down to 10Hz, while a lot of RF wireless systems are only rated down to somewhere between 40-50Hz. Please let us know the difference in tone with and without the HPF if you're using a non-digital wireless system!

I have only used my fdeck HPF-3 with a digital wireless, and it works great that way:

I have the Line 6 G75 which covers 10Hz to 20KHz.

I don’t have a HPF yet. First I need to buy an amp. It may well end up being the Quilter Bass Block. If so, I will need to find out if that amp even „needs“ an external HPF, before I have one sent internationally.

You're in luck. I have a BB800 and I just got an Fdeck HPF and used it at a gig on Saturday with an Eminence Beta loaded 2X10. I loved it. Punchy, present and tight, no boominess and PLENTY loud, if that helps. All I know is it sounded great and I actually got a complement on my tone :)

Sounds great! Did you compare with and without the HPF engaged? Do you feel like it makes a very noticeable difference? Where were your Quilter tone knobs set?

Ah, so you actually boosted lows on the amp, and the FDeck cleaned up the very bottom low end?

It just occurred to me that I often play gigs through other people's backline, so having my own HPF in my pocket would always be a good idea. No matter what rig I play through, I can feed it a "cleaned up" signal. :)

You could say that although, that has been my normal amp setting before I got the HPF. So yeah, I cleaned up my own signal :)
