High Pass Filter (HPF) and Low Pass Filter (LPF) Mega Thread

First reherseal session with a new cab (SWR Goliath jr III 2x10 4 ohm), and because the rattings were at their limits (cab it's allowed to get 350W max., Aguilar TH350 it's 350W max. but Icepower in it says 450W), the HPF/LPF reaised where barely are felt and boom, glorious tone, dispersion, definition.
I can't live without this tiny toy!!! I think sets were:
HPF: 70 Hz
LPF: 10-15 KHz

Been rocking a Markbass Jeff Berlin Combo. No tweeter, a 15 and an amp I like all in one box. Plus it has a spot for my HPF in the effects chain. Played a progressively louder gig last Saturday. No HPF=boomy incoherent low end, HPF on and tweaked= perfect sound for the room, plenty of volume and low end. Check it out:

Depends on the room. I usually set around 60. Saturday night It was probably up around 80ish. I would say that is typical range. Then I actually allow my bass knob to come up (pre HPF I never did that). This gives me a tight but rich sound.
Really is a game changer, especially live. I play in many rooms that are just sonic turds.
Thanks for explaining all this! I have the same combo and the same HPF, and will be gigging them soon. Similar rooms as well. So this information is very useful to me. Thanks again.

You’re welcome! Hope you enjoy as much as I do. Nothing flashy but really gets the job done.

Favorite pedal to push the low end

... Has me thinking of how the various pedals mentioned in that thread would work with a HPF before one of them.

Specifically, would a HPF present a signal to whatever bass boost of choice that would result in better note definition then using one of those pedals without it ?

The MXR Micro Amp+ and the EHX Mole mentioned have me curious.

Why you need to buy a wireless system to go along with your HPF/LPF: You cannot dial in your tone and the band mix from the stage. Period.

@ezstep posted in the Official Mesa Boogie Subway Series Club:

"My little Americana group had an indoor event today. I took only one Subway 1x15, and with the wireless unit I recently bought I was able to walk way out front and zero in the p.a. a bit, re-set some volumes (five vocal mic's + three instruments), etc.

But, I kept getting a clicky-type sound on the bass. Passive J, turned down the bridge pup, not much change, rolled off some treble, not much change. Then I walked back to the stage and rolled the tweeter down most of the way on the back of the speaker cab.

Walked back out front some 80 ft or so, and ... perfect. Not a problem at all. No hiss, no clanky sound, just good sounds (when I occasionally play the right notes).

I normally use the SW2x12 in these venues, but the last time I noticed that the vox mic really picked up the bass much more than when using the single 15. Even with my mic on, it was really nice.

I simply cannot say enough good things about these cabs."

Guys is there any simple and "cheap" pedal HPF? Broughton is ideal but is bit pricey for my needs (especially when i include taxes etc. to get to Europe).

Try to talk somebody in your country to order from Broughton together. That way, you can share the shipping costs.

There are DIY options: Fdeck or Vong Filterung.

You can also try to ask a fellow TB member to help you by ordering and sending you one of Fdeck's... The price for Series 1 is USD 55 (plus shipping). In the past, TB member caeman has been willing to act as a "middleman".

Good luck!
