High Quality Light Weight Bass

Roger that. My walnut 5 is under 9 lbs but I've played a couple custom shop models that weighed in well over 11 lbs.
Thumbs up for the CBs and Elricks; I have one of each.

depending on the sound you are looking for and what you are able to spend I would suggest a Carl Thompson 'No Frills' Bass(usually around $2500 new, just in case you wanted a ballpark idea)
I own two and plan soon on a third, these basses weigh around 6-8 lbs with perfect balance and I do have to say that is very very nice for someone with back problems(such as myself)
I have a 69 precision bass that barely gets played due to the weight and I recently owned a Warwick Corvette, a schecter stiletto, some sx's, even a wishbass and a few others and nothing at all compares to the thompsons in weight/balance/playibility......

Yeah, I have a walnut Cirrus 4 that is pretty light. I wonder what kind of walnut they were using because it's not very heavy. As far as my basses go, the Cirrus basses are as heavy as I own, which isn't bad at all. My Fender Urge basses are light, too. I'm fairly spoiled on light basses.
Eh, as long as you find a luthier and stick with nice woods, you shouldn't have any problems finding a lightweight bass that plays nicely and sounds like a million bucks.
+1 ...also, the ash bodied basses are light. If you can't swing a higher end 'Wick, my $$ was not expensive and has great tone.
My Sei 4 weighs no more than 8 pounds (maybe less) and balances perfectly. Bear in mind balance is also an important factor when it comes to back & neck problems; I have intervertebral disc problems in both my lower back and neck and a badly balanced bass causes at least as many problems as a heavy but well balanced one. Make sure you get a bass that balances well; sometimes lighter basses can be more headstock heavy. Status are a strong possibility if you like the graphite sound; the current Stealth 4 is about 7lbs and the Streamline is even less.
The Jerzy Drozd Sequel has a hollow-body which makes it lightweight. Because of this body this one has a specific sound which you might like or not. The Legend is another lightweight option.

I had an early 90's Warwick NT thumb 5'er that I loved but it felt like it was made out of lead. I bought a Status Stealth all graphite 5 and it is the best bass I've ever owned. Very very light weight as it is a true hollowbody.
