high tension "B" does this exist?

Is there a way to make a string have higher tension? In other words, have the B string tighter and more focused but leave the other strings alone?

Usually need to look at a higher gauge B-String. If you want your B-String to feel like a .100 E-String, get a .130 B-String. If you want your B-String to feel like a .105 E-String, get a .145 B-String

You can always have Jason sell you a standard 4-string set and purchase the B-string separately. Like Jason said, go up in diameter. What gauge are you playing now? If you want it slightly heavier, go up one size, 5-thou more, like a 135 instead of a 130. If you want it significantly heavier, go up 10-thou more, like a 140 or 145 instead of a 130.

I believe another way to get more tension on any string is to lengthen it.

One way is to string it thru the body if you have this option.

Call me dumb, but I've never understood the idea of increasing the string tension simply by putting it thru body. I just don't get it.

The only measurement that matters is from the nut to the saddle, so you could string it through body, wrap it around the body, and tie a few knots in it and it won't make any difference as long as the nut and saddle don't move.

So is it voodoo or marketing hype why some bass builders will make one string thru hole for a B string?

I'm asking really to get a better understanding why (not trying to refute what you're saying).....

One reason IS to make the B string longer...but only to help prevent the outer wrap of the B string from going around the tuner post and breaking the string. This is because the B string tuner is so close to the nut on those basses so there's not a lot of room for the taper. It allows for more 'wiggle room' for the string taper.

Another reason is because a large B string won't fit in the tailpiece, such as on the bridge that Carvin uses on their cheaper basses, and Brubaker uses on their Brute line. A .135 won't fit in the bridge slot, but fits fine through body.
