Highway 1 neck replacement

I'm willing to bet that this has been covered on here, but the terms I searched under didn't return anything that I could use (such is the downside of being a part of the biggest online bass community EVAR!!!!).

I have a highway 1 P, and I am crazy about the tone. I traded a highway 1 J for it, and though I'm still glad I made the trade, the neck on the P is just a touch bigger (I've got tiny fingers, you see). It's enough of a difference to make my wrists hurt. I thought the problem would go away, but it has not after a year.

So what issues would arise if I put a J bass neck on my P bass? Would it even fit? If it makes any difference it's the pre-updated version from '06.

There's a Highway 1 and a Highway One. The later having the Bad Ass bridge stock (a MUST have). Either way - Warmoth is how *I* went (3 times) on my Highway Ones, and I couldn't be happier with their necks. Only problem I've encountered is buying more to mix and match. I have a couple for sale so I can get a couple more. I may have to temper further acquisitions as I've got GAS for a Sad :rolleyes:

I have an old HW1 jazz that i love the neck on but not over keen on the tone.
A couple of years ago i got a HW-one P and loved the tone and look but didnt like the neck.
so yes, i swapped them over without any problems at all. I also put the P neck on the Jazz but never played it.

As you can see, i like my P's with thinner necks.
Its the one on the left ;-)

Thanks much Dave. The H1 P is quite the instrument.

Sling Bass: I currently have a vintage bridge, but have a BAII that is waiting to be slapped on. Once I find it (we just moved), I think i'm changing the strings and the bridge. Wish I had a neck to throw on as well.

There are several people on eBay that pull apart basses and sell all the pieces separately. Shouldn't be a problem at all to just swap out a jazz neck for your p neck.

I love the quality of Warmoth but my shorter fingers did not. IME.
You might consdier USAGC as they have thinner (front to back) necks and have different sizes to accommodate. + they are all x-Warmoth.

Thanks for the heads-up. I hate having short fingers. Have you ever played a short-scale? I think that might be the next thing I try. But I wanted to get some input on other short-fingered bass players.

Short scale basses are fun but the tone is a lot different to my ears. A little more woofy imho. You might try a medium scale too. 32" a nice compromise between the two and the strings aren't as floppyish. Harder to find medium scales but they are out there.
