So,I'll be ordering a brand new Highway One Jazz from a local store tomorrow, and I'm planning on replacing the stock pickguard with a black one.
Only trouble is,I cant figure out wether to order a guard for a Mexican or an American model.
Anyone know?:help:

I ordered one of the $31.99 ones from this site for my Highway One.

PG-0755-043

Brown tortoise pickguard for Jazz Bass®. Standard 10-hole mounting pattern fits most models made in the USA and Mexico.

$31.99

I can tell you that it fit fine, but two of the screw holes did not line up, so I had to drill new ones. No big deal, but I wish that I didn't have to do that.

I agree! Use this link: Invalid Link Removed

I tried getting one off of eBay, but it would have required drilling lots of holes -- and they overlapped with the old holes in ways there were going to create HUGE holes, ya know?

The link above -- I used it -- got the pickguard, fits PERFECTLY, no drilling required. Nice.

I wish I could say the same - here's a pic of a Jazz PG I got from WD Music(aka, pickguards.com):

The only thing worse than WD Music's products was their sorry excuse for customer service... The above bass is an American Standard Jazz - hardly an uncommon bass...

I did the same thing when I got my 2008 Highway One Jazz - swap the white for a black one.

Highway Ones take American pickguards because the truss rod access is at the heel. The Mexican pickguard would not allow proper access.

Yeah, the screw pattern is the same between MIA and MIM Fender Jazz basses, but the MIMs don't have the notch for trussrod adjustment - although it's not hard to add one...

Regarding the OP - I've gotten Fender PG's from Angela Instruments that were the real deal... If I were to buy aftermarket, I'd go to Pickguard Heaven, Terrapin, pr Pickguardian...

Do yourself an immense favor and just buy a FRESH genuine Fender pickguard.

Shop for price, but do not buy one that looks warped, as that means it's shrinking and will probably not align with the screwholes (why after decades and decades new Fender pickguards still shrink is a mystery).

The import stuff will not fit without drilling and filing.

Trust me on all this. I learned the hard way.

Yup ... Bongo's suggestion is bullet proof ... I have put probably 8-10 different pickguards on Hwy 1 and Ones over the years and it was always most successful just using a genuine Fender ...

BTW, when you say you are 'ordering' a 'brand new Hwy One' from the local store, do you mean that it is one that they have in stock, hanging on the wall perhaps? ... Hwy Ones have not been made for a couple years now ...

Agreed - nothing fits like genuine Fender parts... If you have to go with an "exotic" color, be aware that you'll probably have to do some "custom work" to make it fit...

That's okay. The thread is two years old... :p

It's not incompetence, it's FMIC's aggressive defense of notional trade dress (you may remember them asserting they owned the letters, P, J, S and T in eBay listings of non-FMIC Fender replacement parts a few years back).

FMIC-licensed third-party pickguards fit, but they're as expensive as the real things...though with more color options.
