Hipshot A5 bridge spacer

Hello,

I am interested in getting one of these nice Hipshot bridges for my bass. Problem is the fingerboard on my bass is fairly high and I will most probably need a spacer under it to avoid setting the saddle pieces very high, thus causing a big breaking angle for the part of the string past the saddle piece. I want to avoid that, in fact this is the reason I am replacing my original 2 piece bridge, which feels kind of stiff in my right hand. Too steep angles and non-roller saddle pieces. Any ideas?

Thanks!

That sounds like an interesting hack. Did you notice a change in tone? I am concerned that perhaps it will sound a little more woody or kind of "muffled" where as a metal spacer would not have such issues.

Sorry, I wouldn't know. The mod was done before I got the bass and it's still on the workbench.

I wouldn't think that there would be a noticeable difference since it's an alder block on an alder body.

If you change the neck-to-body angle, raising the headstock in relation to the body, you should be able to lower the bridge saddles. You will probably need to lower the pickups as well. A thin shim in the end of the neck pocket furthest from the bridge will do a lot.

I have the same problem with a Korean Schecter Elite 5 with those individual string bridges. The E and B saddles are basically at their top limit to the point where I can't lock down the allen screw on the side that's meant to secure it.

Weird too because the action and the neck relief are normal. I do like my action a little high cause I like to dig in. Looking at replacement bridges, I'm wondering if I'll still need to shim somehow. It's a neck thru, so can't do anything with the neck.

So I'd be interested how the OP solved this.

Having trouble adjusting my string height on my Brubaker Brute. Is anyone else having the same problem?

do a search and check out "the Brute Club" thread. there's a bunch of helpful tips on there.

i'm learning that the black allen screws in the center of the saddle prolly aren't necessary. just seem to lock the saddle down. try remove those and then see if the string height is easier to adjust.
