Hitting Phantom Power on non condensers

I may be making the move to condenser mikes and phantom power.

What happens if my traditional mikes get hit by phantom (by mistake)

No problem. There are some very old ribbon mics that may be damaged by phantom power but I don't think you'll run into any of them by accident

Yep, no problem.

If it's a quality dynamic mic, there's a transformer to block any DC anyway.

Usually nothing. I have a BLUE Kick Ball mic permanently mounted in my kick drum. It's a phantom powered dynamic mic. No sound dude has batted an eye at running the phantom power and nothing bad has happened as a result.

Yes all pro-class mikes.. nothing $800.. good solid gig mikes.

Thanks... my band mates have zero understanding of live sound.. All will be standardized.. just want to ensure we're not creating our own issues.

Just remember, whenever plugging in or unplugging a condenser mic, mute the channel. Make sure your band mates know this as well.

dynamic mics will block it, and ribbon mics are often sensitive to it, as stated.

really, its a good practice to turn your preamps down and disengage phantom power before unplugging a mic. whether its always necessary or not.. its just a good idea.

I can understand turning off preamps etc.. the issue with phantom power is I have 3 condensers.. rest are dynamics.

I purchased the new mixer.. look forward to installing it with some success stories.

Some of the best dynamic mics do not have a transformer. These mics are OK with phantom power.

Just make sure that neither pin 2 or pin 3 ever short to pin 1, as mic damage could result.
