Hi All,

My name is Dave, I work for the new owners of Hiwatt.

I'm posting to introduce myself, answer questions and generally talk all things Hiwatt!

The trademark was bought by a Canadian team of Hiwatt enthusiasts 2 years ago, since then they have assembled a team of highly skilled, dedicated people to bring the brand back to it's former glory.
We've used the last 2 years designing and really focussing on building the highest quality amps.

The official relaunch of Hiwatt is this spring at Musikmesse in Frankfurt.

We have some exciting new products coming, including a Custom 400w bass head, which we'll give more detail on when the press releases are ready!

Hope you're all well and look forward to talking Hiwatt.

Hi! And welcome, Dave.
Good to know the Brand is in good hands now.
Here's my rig (i guess you might have seen it on Instagram)

Let's push to have more proud owners of Hiwatt amps.

Hello Dave, welcome to the ranks of Talk Bass. Did they warn you that some members here can be grumpy? Usually these folk are older and fart a lot! :)

Do you perhaps have the colour reference for a DR201 OPT secondary?

Thanks

You might be able to deduce the color code from these photos

Pretty sure that amp is currently in my possession.

Great!!!!
you have any new pictures yet?????

Hi Bflat, I've (tried) attaching a pic of a 200w head that we tested a few weeks ago in the Hiwatt unit. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the latest pics and videos

That's awesome. I've lusted for a Hiwatt for many years. Looking forward to their launch. Best of luck.

Thanks very much!

Thanks! No prior warnings but everyone has been very friendly so far!

Regarding the OPT secondary, you'd have to let us know the amps serial number/take photos as the transformer used may have had a different colour code. If you have any tech questions you can pop an email over to our technicians at [email protected] and they'll help you out.

Hi bgmww,

Yes! What a beautiful rig!

Absolutely, the more people owning Hiwatt amps the better (obviously for us :D).

Cheers

Hi Dave! It will be great to have you on this forum. I'm in the market for an all tube bass head, and being a huge fan of the late John Wetton, I've thought quite a bit about buying a Hiwatt.

Thanks, good to be here.

One of the greats! If you're interested in investing in a Hiwatt contact us - [email protected] and we'll see if we can get your rigged up!

Hi Dave,

So I assume it was you guys behind the beautiful SE810F cabs that were used by Roger Waters in the Us + Them tour?

It most certainly was. When they were tested at the unit they almost shook the building to the ground!

Hi Dave, will you be making any 200 watt all tube heads?

Hi bobyoung53,

Absolutely. If the picture has attached properly that's a Custom 200 that was being tested a few weeks ago.

Thanks for all the responses so far! Any more questions, fire away.

Best,

Dave

Glad to hear this! So, let me begin the flood of impractical suggestions for your product line: Any plans for a low-wattage all-tube bass head for recording enthusiasts? Or any DI's or pedals? All tube DI?? Drool. Anything like that on the way? :)

Hiwatt has certainly been around for much of my life but I took little notice of it until a few weeks ago. I've been thinking about building or refurbishing a small tube amp, more for the experience than anything else. Tubes were the thing when I was very young but solid state took over before I got very much older. I am slightly older than the 9V or "transistor" battery as we called it then. When I was a teenager I took an RCA home study course in electronics and learned to bias up tubes although that was a skill I have never used in my 40+ years as an electrical engineer. But then a couple of months ago I noticed that the common and free circuit analysis tool LTSpice can simulate tubes quite easily using a freely available library of tube models. That was not how tube circuits were designed back in the day, but what fun today!

So I have been spending a lot of my free time playing around with tube amp designs and studying the old classic schematics you can find on line and that finally brought Hiwatt to my attention. It is nice to hear whenever a storied old brand name is revived from the dead as long as, as it is in this case, the intention is to keep the old traditions alive to the greatest extent that makes sense in these times. I wish you great success and I will keep an eye on Hiwatt. I'm not looking for anything big or expensive but if it becomes possible to buy rather than build a nice sounding practice/coffeehouse amp from Hiwatt then perhaps there will be a Hiwatt in my future!
