Hiwatt

i never pass up an opportunity to post my '73 DR-405 haha! very excited about that maxwatt 400 that debuted at namm, and glad to see a company still striving to make cool stuff like this and not class D nonsense. /rant.

That's one of the nicest DR405s I have seen. I looked for one for several years but everyone that came up was dogged out and uber expensive. If I am going to spend over $4K, the amp better look nice like yours and actually be loaded with tubes!

i have an old DR504 that I use for guitar and it makes it really really hard to play anything else. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do..

I like the master volume on the 200, that is nice. Will you be making bass specific amps or are these based on the original circuits?

Now.... no one has talked speakers yet.. can we talk speakers?

it's a personal preference thing. I don't believe that every frequency that comes off my strings should be represented in the sound that comes out of my amp. This isn't sound reproduction, this is sound production. There is so much clarity in a hiwatt already.. some of us would tend to dial it back a little.. I am fairly certain I would not be able to play comfortably with the tone I would get out of a 200 or 400 watt hiwatt through a .5 aligned cabinet.. To each, his own.

But those frequencies are coming out... but just less consistently if I'm understanding correctly, so some of your audience might be hearing them even if you're not from where you're standing. Not an expert, so happy to be corrected here.

looks like they have a sealed 8x10 in a 3/2/3 pattern. It may be back ported, though.. my back says no anyway, but holy mackerel!!! IF THAT 400 is really 580 you're gonna need it!!!

as far as the .5 thing goes.. I have a preference that is different than yours.. that is all. I see your set ups and I can get an idea of where you are coming from.. I personally can't get comfortable in that place.. I'd be looking to turn the clank knob down constantly or find a better place to stand and wouldn't be able to concentrate. not my cup of tea.

Not sure why Hiwatt would care. All the bass specific vintage Hiwatt cabs I have seen used vertical alignment.

I did a bit of research and I see Hiwatt made (very) few huge 412 and 415 bass specific cabs. As cool as it would be, I can't imaging it would be profitable to try and sell those cabs to today. Also, a pair of their standard guitar 412s will work for bass with a DR201 but it is a very "old school" sound.
