Hofner basses= plaster falling down

God, I just had so much fun playing my Hofners that I had to share it with somebody who might understand. I have a '67 violin bass with blade pickups and also a '64 Senator bass with just a neck humbucker. The violin has black tapewound strings and the Senator has Pyramids.

Going through my trace Elliot v6 into a simple Ashdown 1x15 cabinet, these two basses have so much bottom that it's unreal. I know it doesn't make sense that these plywood basses- especially the smaller body one- should out-thud contemporary solid body basses, but it's really quite extraordinary. Plaster rains down from the ceiling of my studio when I hot the low E. There's really something special about those instruments, can't quite describe it.

I love bass. I love being a bass player.

Amen brother. People who have never played one may not get it, but those old Hofners can thump with the best of them. And they are so light and fun to play!

Yeah, I had a guy come up to me after a set and said my Hofner had the deepest bass tone he had ever heard!!
That's quite a complement!!

Alot of people write these basses off because of the beatles connection but they don't know what they're missing!!

I love my IC bass! It's that pickup being way up front that makes all of the low end bloom!
