Hofner Ignition Strings...La Bella Flat

Hello,

I am seeking advise on La Bella Strings for a new Hofner Ignition Violin Bass.
Any advise as to whether I should use regular or light gauge strings?

I use the Labella light gauge flats for Beatle bass. They play well, are very smooth, and sound fine on my Ignition and on my 500/1 CT basses. Many Hofner players use them. They fit perfectly in Hofner's tiny tuners and in their tailpieces. Just from reading threads over the years, I believe most people prefer the light gauge.
I know for a fact, that for a while, McCartney used the light gauge. Now he's back to using Pyramid Gold flat short scale.

La Bella makes specific "Beatle Bass" sets just for this application.

Make sure you get the "Beatle bass" sets. I don't think the regular LaBella short scale sets will work on a Höfner.

Personally I prefer Pyramid Golds on a Höfner. I'm not saying LaBellas won't sound great but Golds will give you THE classic Höfner tone.

I use Dunlop medium scale flats on both my Ignition and HCT. Although I would certainly use Labella's on my HCT if necessary. I used them on those basses before I tried the Dunlops. I liked them better on the HCT than the Ignition though. Love the 760FL's on my P-Basses.
