Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

I use a Bugera Veyron BV1001T tube amp. Even on large stages and outdoors, going past 10 o'clock is too loud for me, the band, and our FOH sound guy.Nice rig! It looks like it can move a LOT of air.
The 12 x 5 inch speakers and cab design pump out so much bottom end that I have to turn the bass EQ down to 1.
Because the speakers are small, they have very low inertia. I can notice how quickly they respond. Now, 10, 12, and 15 inch cabs feel laggy in their response. I often get to play through 8x10 cabs at festivals interstate. While they are ok, I enjoy coming back to my PJB cabs. I also use a N-UX Solid Studio power amp simulator and a BBE Sonic Stomp.
I have no GAS and don't miss the flatulence I used to have.

My '64 500/1 is 60 years old in May & now that I've gone back using it as my main player, I wanted to put the strings on it that it may have had on it back in 1964.
I bought a set of the Pyramid Gold flats 40-55-75-100 with the green silk ends from Thomann, and just finished restringing & stretchering them out a little.
I'm well pleased with them, they are going to be on there for a long time,

Love the coil cable and colored tolex of your amp and cab. I appreciate when people customize things, the dull black on black is not my style either.
Well I've changed the strings on my '64 500/1 after only 9 days 
. The Pyramid Gold are excellent strings for the 500/1 bass, but i kept on looking at the Hofner flatwound bass strings, and ended up buying a set and put them on my bass tonight .
The Pyramid Gold strings are on my Black Hofner HCT 500/1, so both basses have great German made strings on them

I’ve never had the hofners. What is the difference in sound between the hofner and pyramid strings? Are they differing sizes too?

The Hofner branded strings that he's referring to are 100% identical to Pyramid.
Hofner does sell another string set made in China, marketed as their Contemporary Set, but those are nothing like the German made strings at all.
I posted an iPhone recording about a year ago in this thread of my hofner club with two pieces of foam under the strings. This recording was the moment of creation for this original song with my band. The hofner sounds awesome in the iPhone recording, it’s got that cool hollow tone. Below is the final mastered song still using the hofner in the studio with foam through SVT/HLF 410.
The professional recording loses the hofner sound imo due to…well everything on top - horns, keys, compression, etc.
What do you think do, can you hear the identifiable hofner tone? Is it still there?

I received this today, my first Hofner after 47 years of playing bass.
I'd been thinking about picking up a Club bass recently and then stumbled upon a video review of a HCT 500/7 Verythin like this one. I gigged a modern Guild Starfire II for a few years before moving it on after picking up an Epiphone Jack Casady, which I preferred and still have. This Hofner is much slimmer, lighter and to my eyes, prettier.
Given my experience playing the Guild exclusively finger style, it wasn't hard to quickly adapt to the Hofner's narrow neck and string spacing. I bought this from Barry Clark (his last one) and he did indeed set it up absolutely perfectly, and the intonation is quite good above the 12th fret. This thing roars with the factory rounds, hotter than my Ric 4003S with hi-gains. I like the strings for now, and the fit and finish are excellent.
All honeymoons end, but I'm really enjoying this one.

I love the look of the 500/7 a lot. I've been tempted by them often. I bought a bass from Barry Clark too. It was a very good experience.

As WannaBeatle posted they are almost identical to the Pyramid Gold set. Same coloured silk windings and the same gauge at least, my HCT 500/1 has a good set of strings on it now
.I couldn't believe how close they were to each other the same colour silk windings, on the pictures I've seen the silk ends always looked a lighter shade of green on the Hofner strings. Maybe Hofner have there strings made by another company to their specs, either way I'm done buying strings for now.
I've owned my Ignition Club SE for a while now and although I really enjoy it, I am bothered by the misalignment of the tailpiece. It's clearly not in line with the bridge and pickups. Do more people's basses suffer this error?
My Ignition came with those (rounds) fitted and I can honestly say nothing good about them beyond them being the right length! The LaBella DTB black nylons brought it to life. YMMV

The Ignition and Contemporary basses come with the Asian-made strings (made to look like Pyramid, but, they're stainless steel instead of nickel). They're definitely not Pyramid. The German-made Hofner strings are Pyramid and they're the exact same strings as the Pyramid brand strings.
When I bought my violin Ignition I also got the Hofner flats. Really liked them, although I had to somewhat force myself to warm up to the ‘dead E string’, which I read is intentional except when it’s really dead, then you have a dud, and I kept feeling in doubt about mine. It also felt a little heavy for such a delicate bass.
I started reading up on the La Bella Beatle strings until there was no way back but to buy them, the ones with the .96 gauge on the low E. Decided I liked them better. Less ‘vintage’, but still very deep, really smooth, so all in all a balance that better fits my taste.
