maybe the contemporary has them since it's a departure with the semi hollow nature and "modern". But I don't believe the new German models have the side dots either. Anyone confirm that?

My German Cavern re-issue doesn't have sidedots or a binding around the fretboard.
Not much of an issue for me, takes a bit of time to get used to, that's all.

Those are cool. I've been tempted to get one a few times, but I refrain to keep the GAS in check. I already have 6 Hofners!

I've seen that model before. I'm sure the access to the truss rod is on the headstock, so I am surprised to hear it is not.

Wild. If you are on Facebook you can join some Hofner groups and ask around there about that model and how to adjust the truss rod. I've seen at least one on one of the groups. Hofner even runs one of the groups.

Hello, I bought a nice German Hofner with interesting specs. My worry is that it does not have a truss-rod cover on the headstock. Is it at the butt of the neck? With the pickup there, how much of a hassle is to adjust the neck relief? Thanks!

I would reach out to Hofner and ask them, the only other way you will find out is if you remove the pickup and pickup cover and see if it is at the butt end of the neck

Some of the genuine German control panels knock me out aesthetically, the stark white pearloid used on Ignitions not so much, but it'll do. Dunno why they don't use the - whaddyacallit, faintly yellowish white? - that seems to have been the standard.

Anyway here at long last is a shot of my Ignition SE on the bench. Things got held up but progress is being made. I'm in no rush and in-laws are going to descend on us Monday, so probably won't get a chance to pick up for another week and a half, but no rush. Anyway the Zero-Glide nut with zero fret is now in place and the bridge is being fitted, I'm a happy guy.

I made some band rehearsal recordings earlier this week with my German Club Bass, which I had stuffed a lot of foam under the strings. I and the others in the band were pretty impressed with the hollow tone. This is an iPhone quality recording.

I had a CT for awhile and managed to pick up a 67 that was formerly owned by one of the members of Cake.

Question for the members here - the control panel is bad - just doesn't work. The shop said the cleaned it and tested it best they could, but in the end they couldn't get it working.

Does anyone know of anyone that specializes in Hofner repair that could take a look at the plate? TIA!

That's what they did - it works fine now, but with a new control plate that's not exactly the same as the old one.

You could do what I did. I am guessing you want to preserve the originals? You could then remove all of the original pickup harness and replace it with all brand new parts. Unfortunately the blade pickups are harder to find these days, but you may be able to find some on Reverb or Ebay.

The pickups are fine, and I'm not overly concerned a out keeping things intact, I was really just wanting the vintage control panel and hoping to get it fixed.

If that is the case you can order a new control panel from Thomann. You should be able to keep the plate from your current panel too.
