yep. they usually come as a 2+2 set but the seller made up a set for me for 4 on one side.

so my 185's mods are just about finished now. the contemporary keys that installed have an 18:1 ratio and are a lot smoother than the stock ones were, and also have a little longer string posts. the pearl buttons are a little larger than the stock ones but they still retain the same look. i also changed it from having volume, volume, tone controls to a volume, blend, tone - since i prefer having a master volume.
i found that the volume control knob being so close was a bit in the way when i use a pick (which is 50% of the time) and my ring finger was banging into it so i installed mini chrome domed knobs on it. they're about 1/2 as tall as the originals and have a smaller diameter. i also installed Schaller strap lock buttons on it.

At least at some live gigs Tina is accompanied by Busta Jones on bass.
I also remember seeing video's of "Remain in Light" songs where she plays a Fender Mustang (Bronco?) and/or other short scale basses. So my guess would be a variety of basses.

Got my '64 500/1 out to have a play & to compare it against my CT 500/1 and our young cat Randall, decides to come over and have a look himself to see what's going on. The neck on the CT feels wider around the neck and the fingerboard ends aren't rolled, and the overall feel & tone of the CT is not as good as the '64. Though in it's defense the CT does have a center block and 500k pots, if I ever get another Hofner 500/1 it would be another German made version.
That's an interesting bridge, with only 2 large saddles. Was that the norm for this model?

I think this is a '62 reissue, its on Reverb. Absolutely stunning.

That's how it came to me when I bought it back in 1988 I have toyed with, buying a replacement German bridge & just swamping the top part over. and then the other bridge on the CT 500/1.

That one on Reverb ain't cheap. I'm newly retired. I want a German '62. Maybe one day.
They are not getting any cheaper either, the cheapest one I've seen is the Artist series.
Yes, they are fairly reasonable. Thomann has the best price for them. If I needed to scratch the itch of getting a German Hofner I'd buy one of the Artist models.
The 500/1 sounds good in this live performance.
My modded Ignition sounds pretty close, but still doesn't quite have the plummy roundness of a German one. Perhaps I will try a set of La Bellas instead of the DR Legends flats at my next string change...
Shame that Hofner doesn't offer the Club in the Artist line!
i received the Optima flats and like them so far. some notes compared to the Pyramid flats
- Pyramid are lighter guage .40 .55 .70 .100, Optima are .45 .60 .80 .100
- the thicker strings help to even out the treble response you sometimes get on the D and G strings
- because the other strings are thicker (and the pyramid set is balanced tension), the E string on the Optima set feels a little loose, i'm going to raise it's height a little to get a little more tension there and see if that evens it up
- Optima are a perfect midpoint between Pyramid and TI, the warmth of pyramid (bass and mids), with the punch and sustain of the TI.

Usually they do have green silk ends. They are now producing a set with black ends to replicate their early 60s sets, too.
