Check their web site. They're in what would be called chapter 11 restructuring in this country. So don't give up on them yet.

Yeah, we all know about that - legally, that just meant that they have been given a grace period to restructure their company and negotiate with debtors (kinda like "chapter 11" in the US) - while continuing operations!

I have heard nothing about them closing the factory, laying off their staff, and being sold to Thomann, and I can't find anything about that - that's why I am asking for sources for this info.

Ok got the hofner in and strung up with labellas. Man, this thing SUCKS to intonate hah. I got it mostly dialed in but even with moving the saddle/fret forwards a notch, D is kind of flat. Seems to be the nature of the beast. I’ve heard the Beatles were hardly ever in perfect tune and this proves it. I got it close ish, but not perfect like my Fenders are.

But yeah, I’m happy to say this does all the Hofner stuff. Sounds like paul, mission accomplished.

Intonation? We don't need no stinkin' intonation.

When my Green Line 500/1 showed up from Thomann, it must have been dropped or bumped really hard. The pickups had popped up. The bridge had moved. The strings were misaligned and the action was way too high. I doubt it left the factory that way. It was just a bummer to have to work on it for awhile before I could play it. Intonation was the least of my worries at the time. It's a beautiful bass and I didn't want to have to return it.

If there's no name on the headstock you might want to take off the control plate and see if there's any identification inside.

I was on Hofner's website and they mentioned that Gerhilde Benker had passed away age 93. The daughter of Walter the Man who invented "our beloved 500/1". The stories she could have told, R.I.P
