Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

The link works fine, but confronts me with a login screen.
Well, I guess that's the end of that, for me anyway, and the Hofner group is not forced to set things up that way.
People with accounts on FaceBook actually DO have a choice about making their pages publicly viewable, such as is the case with most celebrities, entertainers, and public interest organizations, and one would think that this group would be a good example of an entity which would benefit from doing that.
Viewers of such pages still cannot make comments nor 'likes', unless they join FB, but they can look, which for me would be sufficient.
And BTW, there ARE some other FB pages relating to Hofner which have done exactly that, and they showed up in an external (Google or similar) search, while this page did not, and now we know why not.

You are welcome. The link I put up was a complex address until I hit 'post'. Then it turned into 'Log into Facebook'. Come to think of it, I couldn't see any of their postings until they accepted my membership request- just the front page header. Looks like there is a plain 'Hofner' FB page that might be good- and public. You may want to try that. 'Hofner Guitars' is the name of the page. A commercial page, I'll wager, but looks like expertise abounds. It is possible to message them from there as well, but maybe only if you're logged in.

Yes, I believe I saw that other Hofner page (among others) on my previous external search.
Regarding the membership requests, it is possible that things are set up so that the group itself (or at least the admin person) must also give approval for a person's access, and that not simply a Facebook login is enough.
Why they would want there to be so many hoops thru which to jump (in order to to join the group) is beyond me, but that is their choice.
They would have more members if they did not 'hide' behind those two layers of privilege, and could always ban a person after the fact if it ever became necessary, just as the TalkBass board and many other discussion boards can do.
And just as many other boards (including this one) do, Fran's Hofner Facebook page could be set up to allow viewing but not posting, if a person does not first join (FB) and log in.

But they still want you to CREATE the account in order to see what most other FB users post, so that they can falsely inflate their membership figures to potential advertisers, and charge more to host the advertisements.
And to go full circle on this, the above-sought Hofner group is in essence condoning such [mis]behaviour by not converting their cloaked Facebook page/account into one intended for an organization (yes, this CAN be done), where the main wall page of the account must be publicly viewable, as I understand the current FB rules.

I refuse to make one, it's just not a good thing IMO. There are millions of things wrong with everything about the website. The cons of Facebook outweigh the pros by so much. I can't buy into that system.
I have never had a Facebook account nor will I. Doubly so for Twitter.

I had thought that you had meant something different in your earlier post, which was the reason for what I said in my first reply to you.
If it was possible to 'Like' your last post two or more times, I would, even though that is something which many other places have copied from FB, at least in name.

Same here for FB.
I did open a Tweet account about 5 years ago, but hardly ever use it, except perhaps when I wish to grumble at some large corporation, because it sometimes CAN be rather effective to do so in public.
But just as is the case in all public-facing online accounts which I have, my real name and other personal info are hidden from the viewer, and often also from the site.
If I am not buying something from/through a site (such as might be the case with eBay or Amazon, for example), then the most info that a website can learn about me is by geolocating my IP address, and doing that will not get them much.

Hey, I've been going around saying that for over a year now, out here in the real world.

I really like the looks of DARK rosewood (think Brazilian rosewood on a Pre-CBS Fender) and finally decided to bite the bullet and dye my FB black. I'm using Higgins India Ink (the stuff StewMac hawks to guitarists) to "ebonize" my board. Ideally I'm shooting for all pitch black, but I know I won't achieve it perfectly, so I'm gonna get as close as possible. I'll be sealing it with F-One oil, which after browsing some forums, i learned its the best thing to use for this process. Fortunately, I've had a bottle for the past 3 years and have been swearing by it. Glad others see the merit!

First coat dried and buffed out, looking pretty black, could be blacker though:
Second coat applied:
Currently the second coat is drying and I'm probably gonna do about 4-5 coats depending on how it looks. My Hofners not only aid me in the learning process of how to play, but how to modify as well. I love doing these mods on my basses because I learn something new along the way. I'm using a paintbrush to apply the ink and it doesn't stick to plastic!
If anyone has suggestions for bettering this process, let me know!
