With all of the recent talk about the CT series, I decided to do a little exploring and found this beauty. It's a HCT with a 61 conversion with the tea cups German tailpiece and tuners. I loike that Hofner is offering some of these reissue models in the HCT series.

I have admired this bass for awhile and talked myself out of buying it on several occasions.

That's not a bad idea but it's more the single coil noise when using either pickup alone that I object to.

If these are similar in tone to the 500/1 58 reissue singles, I would tend to agree with you. Although, I'm reserving judgement as I do not think I have found the right string yet for it. I have a set of TI's on it now and I hate to change them as they are not cheap, but am curious what a set of La Bella's would sound like.

I really like the Cavern pickup spacing but I'd rather have it with humbuckers on an Ignition Club Bass. I have the Cavern spacing with those single coils on my HCT President 500/5 and they sound OK but I prefer the humbuckers on my Ignition Club Bass.

I believe the diamond pickups are the correct pickups for the 61. Not the toaster diamonds, IIRC.

Mid 90's German made 500/1v63 in Blue and Red. They were a very limited run.

That's great. Is it a newer model? It looks like a 64 neck. I love those necks too.

It's a 500/2 Vintage and it does have the thinner "pencil" neck.

I've heard the Violin Burst didn't start until post 2004, so the bass is a 2005 or later. I am the second owner.

Thanks! The nut on my Club is just under 1 5/8”. Not quite 1.5” but pretty slim. I believe this is the neck Hoffner moved over to in 64.

And yours is German built, correct ?

For perspective :

1 5/8" [1.625"] is the nut width of many [if not all] modern Fender Precision basses. - Early ones apparently were wider.

Fender Jazzes are mostly 1.5"

Just under 1 5/8" might be 41mm, or 1.614, which is a spec quoted for some recent Ibanez basses.

IIRC, my Ric 4001 is 1.6875" [1 11/16"], and my Ignition Club is close to that width too, maybe 1.65", the similarity being part of why I chose it.

Yeah they are cool. If your interested Hofner is coming out with a 500/1 shaped version. I'm going to get one.

I have only seen the one photo released by Hofner and they are asking bass players to comment on the Shorty idea! Violun Bass
