I’m loving my Hofner Ignition and, before we had to stop performing here in the Seattle area, it was becoming my go-to bass of choice. I have made a few mods to make it “mine”; I moved the strap button to the upper bout of the body so it would hang better and added some bracing behind it for strength. I bought a black electronics panel and bypassed the tone circuits completely and wired new volume pots directly to the output. The middle knob is a dummy because I had originally wanted to install two EMG humbuckers (as in the original Steinbergers) and use an active VVT tone circuit. After using it on a few gigs as you see it here I decided that it sounded great just as it was. I play in a classic rock trio and it really fills out the sound of the band

compared to my Fender Lyte and my Music Man Sterlings.

And yours is German built, correct ?

For perspective :

1 5/8" [1.625"] is the nut width of many [if not all] modern Fender Precision basses. - Early ones apparently were wider.

Fender Jazzes are mostly 1.5"

Just under 1 5/8" might be 41mm, or 1.614, which is a spec quoted for some recent Ibanez basses.

IIRC, my Ric 4001 is 1.6875" [1 11/16"], and my Ignition Club is close to that width too, maybe 1.65", the similarity being part of why I chose it.

I did not know that they had offered that colour for those.

Neither did I know of the silver sparkle which my Ignition Club is, before I saw photos from its last owner.

Active EMGs have crossed my mind for mine, as I had put some on my '74 Ric 4001 during 1985 and left them there ever since, but no mods so far, except to change the buttons to Straplocks, and strings to flats from rounds.

I have considered moving one or another of the strap buttons, but I play sitting down now, and so far neck dive has not been bothersome, especially when it weighs not much more than HALF of my Ric, and the Ric always has suffered from neck dive, as I hear they all do.

When I bought the Ric brand new during its year of manufacture, I was young and did not care.

looks like Hoffer just made this one up with a normal Shorty neck and headstock. They said the head would look more like the 500/1 stock. If they do make them I hope they come out with some in colors, I do want a bright blue one !

I don't think so, but they have had some supply issues with their CT line for over a year now. It is unfortunate.

I do know there is a red CT Club on Reverb right now!

I searched Reverb for 'red hofner bass' just now, and got several other hits too, including 3 very thin CTs, and some solid body models.

Proaudio still has them in stock but l got the email saying they are going fast ... the get restocked every few months

Ah guess ah'm getting slower to pull the trigger in mah advancing years though.

Back during March though, I did buy a mint 1982 Ibanez 32" scale solid body bass in trans red, with a 1.75" nut width, Maple fingerboard, and OHSC, but that's for another TB forum.
