Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

View attachment 3829912 @Doctor Intrepid have you ever seen a serial number like this? I don't think it's Selmer, maybe the dealer?

Looks like a dealer SS number... Many Hof er dealers put a number on the Hofner guitars because they needed an inventory code. There were times when Hofner didn't put numbers on their guitars.

NBD: Hofner Ignition Club!

Might be blasphemous but... I am really enjoying this bass with roundwounds. Something magical with that bright growl combined with the hollow resonance. I might try a set of Pressurewounds, but for now I'm sticking with the rounds and see how they age over time.

Very nice! I know what you mean. I have five Hofners and use rounds on four of them for the reasons you mention. I think they sound great with rounds, but folks look at you sideways when you tell them.

I love my Ignition Club.... But I did put Hofner Comtempary Flats on it ... I just don't like playing with round wounds! I like the sound of rounds but I just like the flats better :)

AND WELCOME TO THE HOFNER CLUB CLUB!

Here’s my 58 reissue. Love these hollow body basses.

That is a beauty too! I'm sure it sounds similar, but different from the Club; especially due to those single coil pickups. I have blade pickups in my 68, and they are single coil too. I love the tone of the blades.

Do you have a favorite between the Club and the 58?

Here is my 68.

It looks like it has a 64 neck profile, sue to the binding. I love the 64 neck profile! That finish is also amazing.

Thanks so much! It does have the more narrow neck profile, which I find more comfortable.

I like the tone of both for different reasons, though I think I lean more towards the staples than the singles. That could be due to the positioning or it could be that I had the club for several years and got used to the staple sound. I do prefer the control layout on the 58 over the switches.

Your 68 is gorgeous! I’ll have to find a YouTube demo of the blade pickups as I have not heard them before.

Thank you!

Here is my fretless (always good to share the Hofners!):
