Hofner Verythin LONG SCALE bass?

Just about to start a new job with a significant pay rise, so have been entertaining the deal of getting a semi-hollow. Always liked the look of the Hofner Verythin bass, I didn't realise they'd released a long scale version.

It's lost the beautiful inlays and pretty design on the headstock, and the floating bridge. The tuning keys are different too. Not sure how I feel about the dark cherry sunburst. The review below reflects upon it favourably, seems like it might not be the one-trick pony you'd expect it to be, like most semi-hollow basses are.



Anybody got one/played one?

I actually really like that dark cherry burst, I think it suits the bass very well. I'm not really in to normal sunbursts.

It will probably grow on me. It looks a lot more grown up than the short scale version, less ornate vintage bass & more an instrument for a working professional.

And on the other hand, we do all like what we like, so if you're not in to it, there's certainly no shame in that! I think it sounds great in that video.

Does sound good doesn't it? Seems capable of producing sounds besides THE Hofner sound.

It's part of the Contemporary Series, so it's presumably made at Hofner's Chinese facility.

Just purchased an HCT-500/8-DC (Verythin, Contemporary Series, long scale, Cherry Sunburst) Can anyone tell me what the 500/8-DC in the model name stands for?
Can anyone lead me to where I can date mine? (decipher serial #?) Thank you in advance.

According to Hofner's specs they weigh 7.8 ibs and use the same hard case as the rest of the verythin basses.

Thanks for that. I have now ordered one and will be using it, I hope, with my blues band. We play stuff from the Delta up to Chicago, so it should fit a treat. Will keep you posted.....

I definitely like the sound of these, and the bridge and tailpiece is a nice touch (no floating bridge!). I just don't need another bass, blasphemy I know. I am tempted though. Should make a killer blues bass!

I have a thing for hollowbody/semi hollows and have many. With hand placement, different thicknesses of picks and finger style plus mixing pickup blends, I find they work for just about any style.

I also keep roundwounds on mine because my ears seem to prefer them. The fretless get tapewound.

I've been interested in the very thin and Hagstrom Viking bass, but haven't had a chance to play them. Put up a review when you can.

Not wishing to increase anybodys GAS, but,... my bass landed today and I could not be more pleased.

Fit and finish is truly excellent, the burst is just perfect. From what I have been reading I was expecting a less than perfect finish on the f holes and maybe a touch of scratchy pots but no, all just great.

I've only been playing it through my Markbass practice combo but there are a shed load of tones available, much less of a one trick pony than my Fenders..!

I'm liking the strings a lot too. Just a touch sloppy compared to my usual DR's but pretty good. Anybody know what the strings are?

Although the vibe of the look is 60's UK the playability is really jazzy, bluesy.

I don't have a gig with my blues band till near the end of Feb and I don't think it will be right for my other two bands but I am totally thrilled. I think for about 550 UKP its an absolute bargain. If this was made in Germany or the USA it would be way over 1K. I think I will try and get more blues and jazz gigs in my diary..!
