IMO the Hohner is substantially better than the Spirits. SUBSTANTIALLY!! I've owned both and the craftsmanship and tone of the Hohners are way beyond the Spirits. Again...IMO

Hohner B2A . Steinberger spirit

Agreed. I had a B2A and my pickups said hohner on them. It was old school. It was one of the best sounding and playing basses I can remember putting my hands on. Sold it because it looked goofy on my oversized ass. I would not have sold it looking back now.
Got a Hohner B2A fl back in the late eighties. Still use it sometimes.

A little story of my reunion with my humble Hohner B2A.
I bought mine as my first bass (GBP 249) in 1985 when I was studying in England. I then left the bass with my younger brother in 1990 after my Mum bought me a Yamaha RBX400A. (P.S for those younger boys and girls, in the 80s it is the headless steiny, then the pointy heads Jackson in 90s) Christmas that year my brother left the bass, out of the case, place it next to a radiator at school and went back to Hong Kong for holidays. When he went back the neck was twisted badly became completely unrepairable and unplayable. I was furious with him!!! Since then I had not seen the bass anymore.
Sometime last year, I found the bass in my brother's flat. I cannot believe he actually kept it in its hard case for all these years and bought it back to HK. It was like seeing an old friend. To my very surprise, the twist is completely gone! No kidding!!
I then clean up the bass and slabbed on light gauge Sad's stainless, set it up again and a permanent black marker to fill in all the dings. The preamp is dead, all pots are crackling and the neck is thick, still points at all direction and not comfy to play, but actually sounds not all that bad. The bass is now here to stay.
I was actually screwing around with my 24 year old B2A last night.
BTW, there is a string adpator for these type of headless bass so you can use all types of single ball end strings.

Hey, those paddles by hohner or Spirits are made from Eastern Hard Maple. I prefer the Spirits but the one Hohner I had was lifeless but now it just kills... very distinctive sound... kind of like a Ricky. Take a look: Invalid Link Removed
That's friggin awesome work there. I might buy one as cheap as I can and do that. I have a sawmill and wood shop and have allready thought about doing that with a cheap bass. But it's cool to do with with the headless neck-through like that.

as you can see I'm missing the dial in the bridge to adjust the drop tuning switch. Anyone want to give me one or does anyone know where I can buy one?
