Hole Under Pickguard

Hello Bass Peoples
I have a Fender 2011 60th Anniversary P Bass. I was going to change the strings and polish it and decided to take off the pickguard. When I took the pickguard off, there was a hole (not all the way through) in the body. I checked with a couple of people and found that they also had holes under theirs - both basses & guitars.
WHY???????
If anyone knows what this "scar" is for, I'd appreciate the info.
Thanks

PS - This is Henry.
He wants to play the bass but can't wrap his paws around the neck.

Without seeing the hole you're referring to, it sounds like a guide hole used for the CNC machine cutting of the body at the factory.

:poop:Thanks
I've been doing some research and see a lot of info saying that it is a CNC hole.
I don't get it.
They used to make solid body guitars without the CNC.
It's later in years they started to do this.
I was thinking of playing mine with the pickguard off.
Guess not.
Bull :poop:.

Mark of the modern age of manufacturing. CNC machining is far less expensive than traditional manufacturing methods and it's not likely to change anytime soon.

uh...when you get a NBD bass, one usually posts a picture, 99.9% of the time it's of the bass. :) just kidding, the dog will suffice just because, and hope he feels better.

Regarding the hole, I remember a while back a few posts regarding this, I guess the consensus is that it's a CNC hole. In reality it's a a secret space where you put your bass mojo talisman. Got to have it y'know.

What the...!!? Hole in MIA 2009 Fender P body under pick guard

One thing it does with a CNC cut body, if everything is kept set correctly, each body is more alike to each other. It helps in the long run for replacement parts, etc.

"They" used to do a lot of stuff with out CNC machines---- production yields were much less.
Want someone to clamp every piece of wood and move the clamps several times during the process? The price per piece goes up dramatically.
