Hollow or Semihollow 6 string basses ?

I swear I've seen very recently a 6-string version of the totally awesome Warwick Alien ABG.

I was looking for something similar. I ordered a Dingwall Afterburner II (chambered) but I'd still love a true semi-hollow six string (wide spacing B to C for me). There really is a gap in the market currently.

This is a 30" scale Kinal 5. I really wanted a 6 but also wanted a shorter scale for a sweet upper register. Probably would had to go to 33" to get a decent B. It's almost done

Off the shelf I think the Godin A5 Fretted with both a magentic pickup and piezo strung B-G or E-C is the best option to try. If 6 is essential this would give you a good base line for spec'ing out a custom build.

Any recommendations on who could build something like this? My dream guitar would be something basically identical to Thundercats's (hollow archtop style body), short scale, tuned E-E.

Not sure of your budget. TheCliff Bordwell parallel chamber option is really cool. I believe Wynn builds custom
Semi hollows as well. I think Chuck Rainey (or someone if that era and stature) has a few. Without actually running a quote, I'm guessing you are easily in the 3-5 grand range for either of those

I think you guys should make a production-grade 6-String hollow-body bass.

I am a bass player. It's surprising how much the subject of basses like the one you guys made for Thundercat comes up. A lot of bass players are looking for an instrument like that. It would be, say, an AGB 206.

I had an A4 that sounded great, but was a boat anchor. How much do the new A5's weigh, I wonder?

I can't take it anymore. I love my Kinal but I want a 6 string hollow body with magnetic pickups too. The John Patitucci bass has just bit me. Seems to sit in the middle of my smith and the Kinal.

Going to start reaching out to a few builders and see where it takes me.

Check with Rick Turner, I know he has done 6 string Renaissance basses and he has done Renaissance basses with magnetic pickups. Not fully hollow body, but awesome nonetheless.

Actually, my plan would be to tune it E-E like a big guitar.

Thats what i want to do when i get my six string
but its tricky because in a full band the other instruments are taking up the notes in that upper B and E string register

I think its do-able. I went from a four string to a five when i was like 13 and i could still get my fingers across the neck. But if you haven't tried playing a six string yet, try one before you buy.
