I had an A4 that sounded great, but was a boat anchor. How much do the new A5's weigh, I wonder?Off the shelf I think the Godin A5 Fretted with both a magentic pickup and piezo strung B-G or E-C is the best option to try. If 6 is essential this would give you a good base line for spec'ing out a custom build.
Further to my original post, Alain Caron indicated this week via Facebook that he is looking to sell this bass. He indicated the builder will be the contact for the sale.Here is Alain Caron's ABG, made by Montreal luthier Michel Fournelle. Just beautiful, but I imagine expensive.

Actually, my plan would be to tune it E-E like a big guitar.
