Hollow or Semihollow 6 string basses ?

What's the difference, really, between 33 1/4" and 33.25"? :roflmao:

I owned a February 1967 4005WB for 38 years, I think I have the scale length figured out. ;)

The 6 string is the same neck, same scale length as the 4 string model, and same as the 8 string version, and presumably, the rumored 5 string version (talk about a unicorn!).

I have seen one photograph of a medium scale 8 string version of the 4005 (it is in the Smith book, check it out), although it too, has the same neck length; the bridge and bridge pickup were moved closer to the neck to create the medium scale and, obviously, the fingerboard has frets (and more of them) in the correct location for this shorter scale.

O, IC. Thanks. So it (the 4005/6) was indeed the first long(ish) scale six-string bass, modulo tuning and string spacing. Cool.

I think many are coveting Patitucci's new bass.
Personally, I find the promotion he did of it to be in contrast with the fact that it's not available to buy. It makes me think he just simply got it, loved it, and wanted to share his feelings.
Be that as it may, a few days ago I contacted Yamaha and they told me that, at the moment, they think it will not be available as a production model or even as a custom build. I just thought you might be interested to know.
Does anyone know any different?...

Thanks, man... Didn't know that builder (there's always something to be learned)...
Lots of info on the website, but not too much on hollow or semihollow (that I could see)...
I'd be curious to know anything you're willing to share on this build... (woods, configuration, electronics, various tech stuff and, especially, your impression of the final result)...

6 string arch top bass, piezo, 33 scale, Claro, roasted maple

That is the link to the build thread that outlines everything we've decided on. After years of not being able to find exactly what I wanted Andrew and I worked out these specs. It's pretty unique so there is no model he sells. We started with drawings. Most of the details are in the above link, I'd be happy to fill in the gaps after you take a look.
