Initially, I was thinking from an indentation point of view, but if expansion was left around the room, then it can shrink and expand around it.

I’m assuming you have a/c and heat, and there are no major swings in temp ( like 55 degrees to 85 degrees) in that room, plus these newer floors are more stable now, you should be good.

Naw, it's fairly stable, temp-wise. 78 in the summer and 68 in the winter. It very rarely deviates from that range (maybe two degrees + or - if we go away for any amount of time). Plus, there is little to no direct sunlight in that room. I keep it dark, by preference.

Cuz they’re not usually big on being seen in the daylight. (Or so a friend told me)

Yeah, these planks did have underlayment attached. The sound is minimal, to be honest. My initial description provably exaggerates it. But, with my first walk across it, my ears were wide open. It's not so much the sound from under the planks, it's the sound of bare feet on top of them. I am hoping as it settles it will improve.

Yes, I did leave a gap. About .125 all the way around. How much do these things expand/contract? The quarter rounds aren't done yet. I was so done with the project I just wanted the room cleaned and put back together. They'll be done in the upcoming weeks.

I've been "test driving" the LVP in my basement. Was carpeted until a late fall flood destroyed the carpet. Won't put carpet down again. I have headroom issues so something low profile is one of my requirements. Even foam + laminate eats into the headroom.

So after laying down a test carton (I think it was the SmartCore product) about six months ago, I think I could live with the product and what it offers. Feels not bad with bare feet, provided a bit of insulation as compared to the concrete floor (but not as much as the carpet did) and looks alright. Good enough for a basement, anways. I have about 400 sq ft to cover so won't be as cost effective as the carpet was, but I don't feel like taking the risk with carpet again.
