Thank you. Lots of happy little accidents as Bob Ross used to say. The shape came about kind of organically as I tried to work around the constraints of the multi-level piece.
I'm speechless. I thought the maple was at best a 2B. It's certainly not a 4AAAA, but for off the big box store shelf this exceeds even my wildest expectations.
I gotta find the big box stores you guys are shopping at. That wood is really nice!
I just went through the boards on the rack. You have to know what this looks like dry and inside a plastic wrapper though. The light just happened to catch it just right. Haven't seen anything like it since (and I often check.)
Yes. There's a panel held in by 2 screws to allow access to the inside of the body. It is grain matched with the "stripe" of plainer mahogany in the center.
I'm considering putting the 2 battery boxes in it, but I hate to ruin the aesthetics of the exterior of the bass so they may wind up attached inside.

If the panel comes off relatively easily, attaching them inside would be vastly preferable IMO.
Even the "dull" mahogany is starting to shine.
I'm just about done with the shellac coats. Finish is wet sanded with 600 before starting with the poly. Took about 3 sessions of finish to get a level surface on the mahogany. The maple took 2 and I will see how it sands up tomorrow.
Unfortunately, I am now at the mercy of the weather and access to my buddies spray booth. Tomorrow a front comes through and Fridays high is in the 30s. Next week isn't much warmer... So except for sanding and assembly I am pretty much done in the garage for spraying finish.
In other news, I am almost done wiring up the piezo preamps. And should have a working wiring harness by this weekend.

All the inputs for the piezos. And the solder board for the mixing circuit. Fits nicely in a mint tin.
Got all the piezo preamps wired up and plugged into my guitar amp to do some light testing. I have an excellent radio! 
So frustrating. I'm going to take it apart and see what I did wrong.
Hopefully not completely back to the drawing board, but not where I hoped to be.

If you're in the omaha area and need work done Bruce and Sons was very cool to deal with. Micah was a nice guy, and was happy to share some nut files so I could redo the nut properly.
All the slots are bottomed out at .019" and the proper size. It looks like I will need to reduce the thickness of my spacer under the bridge (or remove it entirely! ) but I am close enough that final fitting can be done with some small bits and fine sandpaper.

Very happy. With the new nut in place I no longer need the spacer under the bridge! The action is super low, and makes the intonation and fret markers more accurate.
Pics of today's progress. With the exception of the A string, all the saddles are bottomed out.
How high is the G string above the fingerboard? It looks close to me. I wouldn't be surprised if you need to raise it eventually, to stop it from rattling against the board when you play arco.
I think you are correct about having to raise the strings for Arco. (And the G does buzz just a bit somewhere around the 15-18th fret)
But the fact that all saddles except the A are bottomed out, means you have the most room possible for that. Which shows how well this is all coming together. 
I had hoped to avoid this, but the circuit boards that I have for the mic and the pizeos are amplifying the heck out of local radio instead of the desired signal.
I'm guessing that I'm going to have to build a small case that is completely shielded to avoid this? I tried with the mint tin, but it looks like I have to get more serious about it.
I am guessing that I'll have to include the tone controls in the box as well.
