Hondo Flying V Bass

I have a Hondo Flying V bass in my herd that besides the weight actually plays and sounds good. Since it was a $75 pawn shop purchase years ago I never got a case for it. It does fit in a camo compound bow bag but I think I would like to get a case for it. It is a really long bass so won't fit in a regular case and I can't find any online. I will say that I have taken it in its camo bag and my Steinberger in it's AR bag and I get as lot of looks when I walk in for load in.

I’m not convinced that’s the reason you’re getting the looks. I mean, let’s face it, people don’t often see a sock monkey walk into a bar.

You'll probably have to make a custom case to fit that thing.

My partscaster uses a Hondo body - it's made of plywood and is on the heavier side as a consequence. IIRC they did all their stuff like that.

As for a case your best bet may be a keyboard case; the body is quite a bit bigger than a normal bass I imagine. I went the keyboard case route for my double-neck for the same reason:

Yes, I may have to go that route. I just didn't want a real heavy case. The bass is heavy enough.

Even though my case is on the large side, it isn't that heavy. I had it made by Road Cases IIRC out of NY (I picked one of their standard cases that was close enough). It basically comes as a plywood box with thin foam inside - I got some sheets of thicker foam (that is really light) to do the insides so it looks much heavier than it is.

I got a V-shaped gig bag for mine. It’s pretty long, so it might fit yours as well. My V is 53 inches stem to stern. The bag doesn’t have a brand name on it, and it was so long ago I don’t really remember from whom I purchased it.

I may just go with a hefty keyboard gig case. I have seen some well padded ones. The issue would be the length.
