The traditional ripper flick does nothing for me. I can see more realistic blood and guts on Dr. G. I'm all for the ones that get your gears going with what you don't see. And quiet secluded atmospheres. Blair Witch was great. So was The Shining. Even Dark Night Of The Scarecrow was pretty good.
The movie that scared me the most was the first time I saw The Ring. The untitled videotape on the film had the most disturbing imagery I'd ever seen.

Huge horror fan here. The main thing I dislike about the new gen of "horror" movies is that that they rely on startling you. Thats not the same thing as scaring. Insidious was pretty good. A few friends and I go to the horror film fest in Denver each October. We watch the indie films all weekend and there is a lot of really good quality stuff, its just not mainstream. Others have mentioned Stranger Things on Netflix. That was really good. There is hope 
Im looking forward to the Exorcist series coming soon on fox but I am prepared to be disappointed. Maybe it will be good.

Patiently Waiting For The Next British Invasion
It's just getting harder to scare people since the internet took over our lives people have viewed videos of murders,decapitations and gruesome accidents etc. I remember when the movie Jaws came out people swore sharks got that big and they were everywhere there were sightings in small rivers,pools,quarries you name it.
My favorites were all the classic Universal Pictures Monster movies.

Good movies all. One of the things I miss about moving back east is going from TWC to Xfinity. No I don't miss TWC and their super compressed signal that pixelated even on SD channels. But here in Danbury Xfinity doesn't carry Svengoolie on Saturday nights so I miss all their classic movies.
Just bought, "Horror Classics, Anniversary Edition", 12 -disc set for $9 @ Wal-Mart. 'Nosferatu', 1922... 'Night of the Living Dead', 1968... 'Phantom of the Opera', 1925, etc... If I want to watch something really scary, I just turn on the local news.
I love the classics too, they werent that scary but they were beautifully shot as film and the "monsters" were cool. I also like old, "bad" movies like they make fun of on Mystery Science Theater 3000.
I dont mind 70s-80s gore because they are kind of nostalgic for me. I always thought they were kind of ridiculous anyway.

Secondly, I've moved on the other countries horror flicks now, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Japan..
It's funny. Some of the foreign films have been remade in the US and they manage to do a near shot for shot remake and produce a pile of crap.
