I took this week off so that I could spend some time getting ready for a backyard birthday party I'm throwing for a friend. Was going to be epic, with the pool open and BBQ and music from the house band. But...

It's going to be at least 104* tomorrow. They were calling for that today, but current temp is 108*, so I won't be surprised if it's worse than forecast.

So, it looks like everyone will be piling into my dumpy little house for the day, and we'll try to console ourselves. The pool will still be open, so that much is good, and the BBQ will still be grilling, but nobody's gonna wanna hang outside and I can't ask the band to play out there, either. So they'll be doing their set in our rehearsal studio, which is semi-airconditioned and not very suitable for an audience, but whatever.

Oh, and yeah, it's a great day to bake a birthday cake.

The weather here is downright dangerous. I'm heading for the pool. Hope the rest of my friends in the western US are hanging in ok.

Some of the most memorable life experiences come from situations where things don't go as planned. I predict a good time for all and good memories to reflect on for years to come.
Maybe something crazy will happen like Lenny Kravitz will stop by since his car broke down in the street in front of your house from overheating and he needs a lift to the repair shop. Then he see's y'all jamming and asks if he can sit in for a few. Because of your kindness, he then invites everyone to come down to his air conditioned studio where you can lay down the tracks to that song you shared with us a while ago with a guest appearance from Mr. Kravitz.
Then again, maybe you can't stand Lenny. If that's the case, insert the name of some other musician you admire. Don't forget to post pics when it happens. :)

That would certainly be making lemonade out of lemons!

It has only been in the mid 80s in Enumclaw, Washington, but that is more than I like. Especially when work for the last two days was devoted to climbing ladders and walking around on 70 or so roofs down there. That is a lot of climbing and shingle work in the sun. I am also pretty well burned in spite of precautions.

More than 100 would be far worse just hanging out on the ground. I hope all who have to deal with that have no problems surviving it.

In Palm Desert yesterday for a doctor’s appointment; it just happened to be the record breaker for the Coachella Valley…

But it was a dry heat.

For several years back in the early 90's I played in a little corner bar in DHS (Desert Hot Springs) that had no a/c, just a tired old swamp cooler that really didn't do much. Four nights a week, 9:00-2:00. Box fans and extra shirts were the order of the day.

Whew, yeah, DHS. You’re a brave man. I’ve seen some of the ugliest hookers on that stretch of Palm Dr. But things are turning around for the town; they have a new tax base….
