submissive...that's the funniest thing I've heard! Out of all the asian girls I've met, only one would I call anything resembling submissive, and more shy than anything. Believe me, living in hawaii (for 11 out of my almost 18 years of life in general), I meet more asians than haoles, aka Gaijin, aka caucasian. I know probably 100 times more asians (including filipinos) than whites. Exotic...well not really...maybe there's that forbidden fruit thing when there's hardly any asians on the mainland US. Sex puppets...probably people have been watching too much 'memoirs of a geisha.' They are pretty hot though. However since most of them are short, they are more appealing to me than white girls (which in general, the ones I've seen are tall) since I'm a SHORT white guy. by short read 5'6" in height. and I don't have much growing left to do, probably 2 inches at most.

Cute gils/women for sure, technical players, yes, but come on, playin VH while seated? Playing ANYTHING while leaning on to a wall? Neither of those performances had any soul, groove or whatever phrase one wants to use if "balls" doesn't seem appropriate .
Us bassplayers are usually accused of having both feet nailed to the stage, or just hangin there like on a noose, nothing moves exept for the hands.
I've seen my share of performances and one particular comes to mind wehen the topic is performance appearance.
I was behind the monitor-desk when a group by the "false" name Jailhouse Band did their first major gig. That name shouldn't ring any bells, but perhaps Apocalyptica does. 4 hippy, nerd-looking, nervous cello players in a metal concert supposed to play Metallica had me question the sanity of the promoter once again, was I ever more wrong. Those 4 (3 really
) guys ROCKED, SITTING, I just stood there, with my jaw hangin, I was amazed to say at least. THAT from 3 cellos, unbeliveable (3 because of an unexcusable f***up from a stage hand with the DI). The crowd went nuts and the rest is history. No-one could top their performance that night, even H.I.M was lame in comparison (well they sucked every once and a while anyway ).
So I see nothing special in those performances from cute girls, but that wasn't the intention of this thread after all now was it?

Soulgeezer, I did some research into your claims. I found it hard to believe that the Japanese government in this day and age would allow legal discrimination.
You were not discriminated against because you are white, you were discriminated against because you are not a Japanese CITIZEN. There are definitely citizens of European and other non-ethnic Japanese in Japan. The country has some very strict immigration laws (2 years for a work permit, etc), and I believe 5 years to attain legal citizenship (and you must withdraw your current citizenship). The examples you listed (signing as head of household, rent, credit cards, etc) are withheld from NON-CITIZENS. Even if you were someone of Japanese decent but raised in another country and moved to Japan, you'd be subjected to the same thing.
As far as institutional racism goes, how about affirmative action here in the US? AA laws actually handicap Asians in college admission since statistically we score higher on standardized tests.
Furthermore, although not institutional, how about media discrimination? Notice after VA Tech the media kept refering to him as "the Asian shooter". They never said "the Black shooters" after the Beltway Sniper shootings, or "the Jewish shooters" after Columbine. There are also very few Asian American male actors, and those few are usually relinquished to roles as martial arts experts (Jackie Chan, Jet Li), or as geeky, wimpy nerds. Let's not forget the "Dr. Fu Manchu" series and Long Duk Dong, both stereotypical Asian characters who were played by white actors in "yellow-face". They never portray an Asian guy as a "normal" guy--they're either a loser, a foreigner, or a karate master, sometimes all three. The only movie I've seen thus far to portray an Asian man as a normal person (and who gets the girl at the end) is "Harold and Kumar".

Back to the original post. Beautiful. That's all I'm saying. That short skirt phenomenon is still alive and well in Japan today I'm very happy to report. The first video is the Van Halen song shy of perfection.
That would be because Chan and Li (and the more recent star Tony Jaa) are martial arts experts. I don't recall anyone throwing a hissy fit because Bruce Lee only did martial arts movies.
Besides, Asians invented the martial arts styles that are popular in martial arts movies. Complaining about that is like complaining because most rappers are black.

Yes, there are. But, these numbers are incredibly small and people attaining this status are usually granted such based on "special circumstances."
This is true on paper. The chances of actually attaining citizenship are pretty much slim to none.
Wrong. Someone of Japanese descent raised in another country and moving to Japan is automatically considered a Japanese citizen. Non-Japanese have about a 0.000000000000000000000000001% chance of attaining Japanese citizenship. You cannot compare one to the other.
Don't confuse the law with the way in which the law is applied. New Jersey law says that citizens of the state can obtain concealed carry firearm permits. However, you can count the number of people who possess such permits on one hand (literally!). In fact, in my county, not one has ever been issued! Just because the law says it, this doesn't make it so.
Again, what I'm saying is based on personal experience. I've dealt with the Japanese government. I've dealt with banks and utility companies. I know what they do. No amount of Internet research is going to contradict my knowledge of and direct experience with the system and how it works.
It's funny, though, that you're claiming to be discriminated against in the US, but you are telling me that I'm not discriminated against in Japan, where I gather you have never been.
