Hot?--Rocker?

Me and my girlfriend were at the mall today and this Korean lady, with her 4 kids, looked at my girlfriend and me, then proceeded to snuff her nose up in disagreement. I smiled at her and then kissed my girl, Asians kick ass!

I hope you're with her for who she is, not because she's Asian. And good on you, cause that lady was racist, plain and simple.

Asians really can be some of the most racist people you'll ever see, just ask any gaijin who's spent time living in Japan. I guess it's because they kept to themselves for so long that they (speaking in generalized terms, of course) haven't spent as much time mingling with other races as whites, blacks, and Hispanics have.

I agree, there's just something about good-looking Asian chicks (Maki?)...

Gee, thanks:rolleyes: Why don't you try being an Asian American here in the US, and see what it's like? The fact that you painted Asians as foreigners who "keep to themselves" shows that those stereotypes are alive and well. Well, I see you are from North Carolina, so you must be some racist hick (oh my, did I just make a generalization? )

Also, are you speaking for yourself? (being only 18, how long exactly did you stay in Japan?) Many white men who travel to Asian countries get women flocking to them, even if they are considered ugly in the United States. It's because western media is so powerful and influential, and has started spreading to Asian countries. Asian men are stereotyped as diffident, nerdy losers with small penises, Asian women are seen as submissive, exotic sex puppets.

By the way, for those who don't think DoctorJazz's comment was racist, replace "Asian" with "Black" and read it again.

I've gotten yelled at by other Asians for dating caucasian guys. But I'm an white person in an Asian body...my whole family is white cuz I'm adopted.

Sometimes I look in the mirror and I'm like  I'm not white!!!

I hope you're willing to at least date an Asian or otherwise non-white guy. Please don't tell me you're one of those Asian American women who trash Asian men and see them as nerdy losers.

Also, I'm totally against Asians putting down others for dating outside their race. It's racist and none of their business.

Let me make it clear that I'm not against interracial dating at all. What I am against are fetishist white guys who are only into Asian girls because they are Asian, or Asian girls who claim they will only date white guys because they think Asian guys aren't good enough for them.

It seems to me that you're just looking for an excuse to be offended. I was referring to history, actually. I've studied more Japanese history, so that's where the majority of my knowledge base comes from, but surely you're aware of Japan's extreme isolationist stance all the way up until Matthew Perry opened it up to trade. Also, it seems that whereas European countries busied themselves colonizing Africa, the Middle East, Indochina, North America, and South America, Asian imperialism seemed really to only stretch into other Asian countries, i.e. Japan's forays into Manchuria, Korean pirates raiding Japan, etc. Also, while they did trade extensively with Europeans, they generally remained on their own soil and made the Europeans come to them rather than settling extensively in Europe and other regions.

Note how in my original post I used the caveat that I was speaking in generalized terms, in the hopes of avoiding an ad hominem flame war. We here in Nawth Car'lina has us some good edumacation systems, so I realize that generalized comments don't apply to everyone, hence my disclaimer.

You may have some point to make here. I've never actually been to Japan, but I have a good friend who is currently living in Japan as an English teacher and I've read several blogs written by Western expatriates living in Japan and China. All seem to echo the same sentiments.

It's because western media is so powerful and influential, and has started spreading to Asian countries. Asian men are stereotyped as diffident, nerdy losers with small penises, Asian women are seen as submissive, exotic sex puppets.

Finally something you're right about, although I will say that it seems to me that stereotypes frequently have some basis in reality. I have a good number of Asian friends, and I can only think of two exceptions I've ever seen to the "Asians are really good at math" stereotype. A lot of the studiousness bit comes from the extremely strong work ethic that seems to be a part of Asian culture. Since most Asian families currently in the US are closer to first-generation immigrant status than most black or white families, it makes sense that this and other parts of their original culture are more deeply ingrained in them than in races that have inhabited the US for longer periods of time.

The sexuality thing, for lack of a better expression at the moment, likely arises from the fact that Asian cultures seem not to have gone through Puritanism to the same degree that Americans have, and thus have fewer societal taboos on sex. That, and I just happen to find a lot of Asian women attractive. Not because I'm envisioning owning some kind of sex slave, but simply because I find them attractive.

Matthew Perry "opened up" Japan in the 1840s. That is over 150 years ago. Although it may not have been as long ago as trade with other civilizations, it is unreasonable to say that Asians are as a whole isolationist based upon that example.

Although I agree that there is some racism in Asia against whites or otherwise non-Asians, there is definitely MUCH more severe racism here in the US against Asians and Asian Americans. Look up the Vincent Chin case and the 1997 Denny's restaurant controversy in Syracuse. There was also a very recent case (just months ago) of a couple of Asian American kids getting beaten unconscious in NYC and the perpetrators only got probation. Let's not forget the lynchings of Chinese railroad workers and the internment of Japanese AMERICAN citizens during WW2.

The "model minority" stereotype of Asians being hard-working and studious is in fact based on the culture's strong work ethic. However, there are many Asian Americans who have been here for many generations. The media also portrays Asian Americans as perpetual foreigners with accents and no clue of American culture. I've personally been told to "go back to China you chink" among other things.

As far as Asian sexuality, it's considered pretty taboo in Asian culture as well. The only reason Asian women are painted as sex objects is because of prostitution during the Vietnam and Korean wars, and men taking Asian women back to the US as "trophies".

I am willing to date any guy of any race or religion that I have a mental and physical connection with. I prefer guys with a sense of humor, ones who are not easily offended, and ones who don't see themselves as victims.

Well I do live in Connecticut, so it'd be the Northeast:D

Dude, I don't mean to be rude, but you don't know what the Hell you're talking about. I've lived in Japan. My wife is Japanese. In Japan, I'm a footnote (literally!!!) on my wife's family register. I can't be head of household, because I'm not Japanese.

In Asian societies, the racism is far more institutionalized than it is in the US. Hell, as a white guy with a Japanese wife in Japan, I am anathema. I literally don't exist. I'm just the gaijin my wife decided to ruin her life with.

We've been through this before. Don't you remember?

I can't open a bank account, sign up for a cell phone account, get a home phone, subscribe to cable television, rent an apartment, etc., etc. -- Solely because I am not Japanese.

Asian racism is institutional. American racism against Asians, especially in the recent examples you cited, is not insitutional; it is individual people being idiots. The older examples (railroad lynchings, internment camps) are institutional, but from another time and would not be tolerated today.

Get a grip, buddy. The only person out to get your Asian ass is you.
