"House" bass

Would you link me to electronics to order? I always get lost with speccing these particular parts. Or is there somewhere to get them locally (I'm in a major metro)

I'd suggest to find an experienced, pro guitar repair shop and tell them what you want done as you don't DIY.

The only mod I’d even think to waste money & time on the CV-P that’s going to be used by Lob Knows Who is swap for a bridge with speed slots instead of plain holes at the tail.

Maybe clean & mount some EB Cobalts on there if you really need the feel of flats.

Somebody will figure out how to break a string when you’re not around. Murphy guarantees it. The pick holder will get broken. The thumbrest will disappear. Buy spare budget tuners, keep them at home, always bring one and an appropriate screwdriver when you come by to jam, they will get broken.

This is good advice. Remember, no good deed goes unpunished so make that your expectation here......

I'm putting on La Bella flats, a thumbrest by the bridge, a pick holder, and may throw on tuners and/or a bridge from a Fender P that I upgraded. Anything I'm missing?

I can solder and replace existing electronics no problem. I just get lost with the order: linear/audio, shaft size, and brand.

My CV50s is 16 years old. The pots and jack are still noiseless and working well. Change the strings if you must, and be done with it. Three cheers for you for providing a bass

You're missing the fact that a strong majority of layers prefer rounds. Yes, the flats crowd here is vocal, but they're a small minority. You can turn down the tone control on a bass with rounds, and although it's not quite flats, it's close. A bass with flats, you have no chance of approximating the sound that most folks want our of a bass.

^This......in a nutshell: A player can dial back zinginess and highs with rounds but highs and zing cant be dialed forward. I personally like highs and zinginess, expecially for slap style.

Adding the thumb rest is pointless. There’s hardly been anyone who ever used it. I wouldn’t bother changing the tuners or bridge either. The ones that are already on there are perfectly fine. Just change the strings if you feel the need and call it a day although you might want to reconsider using flats and instead go with rounds since they’re the more popular choice.

Good choice of bass, but I would just be sticking some cheap rounds on it.

Then I'd recommend Bournes or CTS pots, 250k volume and tone, a
.047 cap, and a sturdy Switchcraft plug.
These parts should cost 10 bucks or less.n

Then check for a solid ground and check shielding.

Or as Stewie points, it may easily run for a long time as is

Elixir rounds. flats are dead, stiff, and sticky. Rounds aren't. Tone knob takes care of un wanted treble.

As others have said I'd put roundwounds on it and make sure the action is playable.

Yeah, put some middle of the road rounds on it and call it a day. That bass stock will provide years of service. If some part breaks in the future, then replace it.
