House electronics question

Hi all,

Got a noob electronics question for ya'll...

I bought an automatic drinking fountain for my cat, which I leave running 24/7. It uses a waterproof pump like this one:

I was just wondering, it's a waterproof pump (IP68) but if water did somehow manage to penetrate it, is there a chance it could short-circuit the electric motor which could then feedback into the plug socket and cause a fire? I don't believe the plug has a fuse in it?

I’m no expert, but since it uses a usb plug, that would indicate that it runs off a low voltage DC. Probably no more than 12 volt DC from a transformer. If water gets into the electronics, it would not do anything but stop working. The same principle that allows wet electric shavers to be safe.
