Houston, We Have a Fake (me thinks)

It's a very boring slab of wood to choose a natural finish on.
Is there any other reason you think it is suspect?
The body looks like the same type of grain I've seen on other Squier VMs w soft maple bodies.

Neck and truss access match Squier VM. That's not the same rod end and access hole that was used on late 70's Fenders. "Serial number" on water slide suggests late 70's, however, I've seen non-OEM water slide decals w faked serial for sale and I'm 98% sure that's what this is given everything else.

Tuners look like the cheap ones also used on Squiers.

Neck plate doesn't match late 70's Fender.

Water slide decal on the back is also not late 70's plus it also looks non-OEM.

Also, Squier VMs came with come knobs like the ones on this bass.

I really hate when people apply fake decals. Yes I know, it’s their bass and they can do what they want but this is what it leads to.

Yup. All of this.
