How about the Laney Digbeth preamp pedal?

I have one of these and it’s a great sounding pre amp.The EQ is really flexible and it sounds great clean or dirty. I have several pre amp alternatives and this is the equal of any of them despite them all having different “flavours”.

It also happens to be one of the less expensive pre amps in my collection, which makes it terrific value.

My collection? Tech 21 BDDI, VTDI, MP40, Para Driver DI (probably my favourite of the Tech 21 boxes), plus the Flyrig. Also Caline Wine Cellar, BassRig SV (the priciest pedal I have) and the Laney Digbeth. Solidly built, works great - overall, recommended unreservedly by me. :)

I still want to try the Ampeg SGT DI, but again, that’s a lot more money.

Got mine and it sounds really good. But, the bypass seems to be an issue. If I want to bypass it and run another pre, it seems to just dampen down everything and I can still hear the Digbeth faintly when bypassed. Any ideas from the users here?

Figured it out. I had another pedal on the board that was causing issues. Once I took it out of the chain, everything was great. Gigged the Digbeth the first time last night. Sounded really good. Feeding into the Sushibox Finally at the end of the chain gave the tube channel a great drive sound.

Played the first show with mine on Friday night. I am using the active input as I do have an active bass. However I don’t boost much on my bass. I was a little disappointed with the output level. I’m thinking about switching to the other input. as for the tone, I was loving the clarity of the high end. The bass felt more clear. We were using a house PA so I’m gonna wait to pass final judgement until the next gig with my PA.

I always have a preamp on my board and go into active on the amp. So, I thought the same would hold true with the Digbeth, even though I use passive basses. Nope, thru active it was subdued. Into passive it is great. The owners manual says good rule of thump is active bass to active input, but to try both as things may vary between instruments.

I have the Laney Custard Factory Bass Compressor for sale in the TB classifieds at a great price, if anyone is interested in combining it with the Digbeth.

It has the best clean blend action I've used in a compressor. Pretty versatile also with the presence control.

I played again tonight with the passive input used and I gotta say I’m disappointed. The tone was not what I was hoping for and it really didn’t shine at all. I will be sending it back and starting my search again.
If anyone has had a similar experience and switched to something else as a preamp only set up running into your PA, let me know what you went with. I see Genzler has put out the Magellan Preamp but haven’t seen anything on it.

To each his own I guess. I use mine for recording and it sounds stellar

So I got myself one of these yesterday. Sounds amazing! Tubey with a little grit. My issue is that when I plug my phone into the aux in, the volume is still quite low after it is maxed out. How do you guys deal with that? Another headphone amp to boost the aux in signal?

Did you manage to figure this out? I’m thinking of buying one and it will be used alot for practice using heAdphones and aux
