I owned an older, used WM 12 and ended up selling for several reasons. 1. It started to develop a nasty rattle that I couldn't contain, and 2. I disliked the sound with my setup. I believe I was trying various pickups like the Underwood and Realist at the time with a not-so-good preamp. That might have been with my old POS plywood bass at the time as well.
Now, I teach at a university and they have one of the newer models (without the shelf/drink-holder! design found on the older models). I must say, I'm impressed with it -- especially now that my pickup and preamp rig has evolved (Carved bass/Barbera/Aguilar DB924 18v pre). I played the amp at a student recital last year in front of a full house in the auditorium and it sounded great. The students use it during big band practices and although its slightly beat up, it sounds juts fine. They also keep it on a wheeled cart (like the ones most schools use for film projectors) and it sounds especially good a few feet off the ground.
I'm considering buying a new one again for cocktail jobs. Unlike some of the other players here, I really dig when a cabinet or combo adds tons of low end to my sound. You can always roll it off... I think you can get them online and shipped for around $500...a pretty solid deal. I wonder if those "clip on" roller handles from Euphonic's combos might fit one of these???
One of my students has both new WM 10 (super portable) and WM 15. I was really impressed by the ten -- sounded great -- especially with the extension cab. The 15 is also awesome -- especially for EB, but I haven't tried it with upright. IME, 15 inch speakers aren't the best for DB -- but it does have a nice sounding tweeter.
