How are the Blacktops & Modern Player Basses?

Any opinions on the new Blacktop or Modern Player Basses from Fender. Are they worth the money, or am I better off saving $200-300, a picking up a nice Squier?

I got a blacktop p it is different. Lot's of grrr. Had to shim the neck adjust the truss and intonation. Put flats on because the tone with rounds was just too gritty. The frets were good and the finish was good. It plays great now and sounds sweet. Just a normal setup for a Mexico bass I suppose. For metal and the like it would be awesome. I would gladly trade though for a more mellow bass. It is very nice but I am old school I suppose.

tried both the BT precision and MP jazz in the same sitting. idk if it was the amp or what.. but they had pretty new strings and everything and neither seemed gritty or bright enough at all to my liking. both were pretty mellow and didn't have enough mid range or high end, and i definatly had the amp EQed to my liking. also i failed to hear the unique tone that both suposedly have... the P sounded like a p and the J sounded like a J to my ears.

Fender Modern Player Jazz Electric Bass Guitar.

Interesting bass , played one today, sounds like Stanley Clarke early Alembic to me.

Very different for Fender, can't wait until they show up used

I'll get a sunburst one and trick it out with split pickup switches.
