How are you using/configuring Line6 HX Stomp for live use?

Yep, it works really well, I use Poly Pitch for 1/2 step detuning for several songs with my 5s.

Relax and have fun experimenting. There are so many capabilities of this multi fx unit, that even seasoned users are still discovering new tricks.

I pretty much get every sound I need between my Helix and C4. I set my patches up by song….and then order the songs for the gig so I don’t need a set list on stage.

I also run some patches with a parallel dry so that I don’t lose bottom end when using certain effects.

And you don’t need to assign one effect per foot switch. You can assign 2 or 3 or ? if you like. Button 1 can control your distortion, octaver, and envelope all at once to give you some synth….and when you turn it off your chorus and delay can turn on if you like. The options are endless. All this with 1 switch.

I have an external 2 button switch that I’m not even using in favor of an expression pedal for some sweet fading in/out fx…so I’m getting everything I need off the unit’s 3 switches.

I should also note that I use an external tuner…so that frees up the tap-tuner switch…and I pretty much use HX Edit exclusively vs trying to set up everything directly on the Stomp interface.

Anyway - good luck and have fun experimenting. You’re not going to blow it up, so just try whatever and keep what works for you. YouTube is also a great resource.

Thanks! Yeah, typically in my gigs I can’t assign multiple things to one switch. Just because I don’t need to get that specific. Maybe an overdrive with an octave, or something with delay, but if I decide to use it on a specific thing on the fly I’m not gonna go scrolling through presets to find it. So I could set it up with the set list but seems overkill for me. I think I’m the end it’ll be to replace a few pedals.
I need the tap/tuner for delay times, etc. so kinda sucks that I can’t free that up. Because I use a tuner anyway!
Running with a parallel dry is good advice! In notice my bottom drops out with some envelope filter effects.

I use it for live gigs, strictly for effects. I have the Stomp XL with 6 buttons so I setup a few patches for particular tunes but mainly have one patch I use.

Main Patch: (all independently on or off)
Mutron - Phaser - Reverb
Sansamp OD - Sub Octave - Chorus

I don't use any amp/cam emulators, nothing is 'always on', it's just a swiss army knife setup with every effect I'll ever need. Other patches have specific distortion, delays, etc. I just got tired of needing one more pedal for a specific tune. I also have a ABY mute box, tuner, compressor, DI, and a spot for one extra (right now it's the Pitchfork).

I think this use is exactly what I’ll use it for. Some effects just need the ability to reach down and quickly adjust. Definitely not going into menus in the middle of a song. Lol.

Sounds like you’re trying to talk yourself out of the Stomp working for you.

For what it’s worth you can hook up two external foot switches. I have a tap tempo switch (tuner on long press) and an expression pedal.

The midi controller utilizes the midi ports, so in the end I have three external controls.

I have the midi control set up so that a long press of the button assigned to my delay ramps the feedback time. A long press of the footswitch for my chorus turns it into vibrato. You can also assign your expression to ramp up delay feedback, or tremolo rate, or use as a pitch shifter.

If you want it to work you can likely make it happen. If it isn’t fun or inspiring well, then that’s an easy decision.

I like that the HX is so flexible in that you have multiple options for how you can use it.

I don’t need to change sounds or effects during a song, so I have created multiple patches for the sounds I need - clean and bright, overdriven SVT, fuzz, warm finger style, modern rock with pick, etc. I keep my HX on top of my amp and use the dial to pick what tone I need for the next song.

Is the pitch transposition part pretty accurate? I have a gig that I use a bass specifically tuned down per the artist's requirements. Currently, it's no real biggie to tune that bass up or tune another bass down for whatever gig I feel like using whatever bass. And the digitec transposer pedal didn't work at all for me.

The HX Stomp has my interest strictly for this reason.

Yep the Poly Pitch sounds pretty good. I play a 5 so the majority of tunes are not a problem, but there’s a couple of tunes that use open strings and are dropped a 1/2 step for our singer and it’s easier to just hit the button and play it normally. Our 2 guitarist use the Digitech Drop pedals (they don’t sound good on bass) and I use my Stomp, and it does sound good on bass.

Here’s mine. Mission switch, Pinstripe MISO gets me a super quiet XLR with a ground lift, and my Bergantino footswitch for those gigs when I bring my amp to larger shows. Using a Bergantino HDN210 IR that’s pretty accurate. Simple setup with chorus, octave, filter, and a mild distortion. Works well in either ampless or with my amp.

I’m running a simple midi that gives me snapshot and FS controls at the same time. I’m also running my IEMs through the Stomp.

Are you still using the Stomp for your IEMs?
I'm planning on getting the Stomp and am interested in doing the same thing.

Right now I've got a Rolls Monitor that I plug headphones into and that gives me a personal monitor of just my bass 90% of the time, but it also allows me to plug in a monitor mix from an external source, or plug in another aux source like an MP3 player or a metronome to play along with.
Do you know if I can do the same thing with the Stomp? Will it take an extra block to do it?
I'd like to downsize and I'm not sure I can fit the Rolls Monitor on my board when I do so.

I have sold my stomp and am using an LT these days. The church mostly got their sound figured out so I am not using the LT as IEMs. I did put a Rolls back on my small board though.
As to using the Stomp, it will take a send/return block to make it work for IEMs. If you are already maxed out, keep the Rolls.
