How attached are you to your amp?

I don't own an amp other than a small "Acoustic" brand practice amp, thus I'm not picky when it comes to amps. As long as they have knobs, I can make them work. I would get powered cabinet(s) and use my Sansamp as my pre if I needed an amp. I also like GK amps.

I use what I have - Rumble 500 watt head into custom 2x12 cabinet because it’s all I can afford. It does the job that I need it to well enough but if I had more coin I’d probably have a Mesa or Bergantino.
This coming Sunday I’m playing my first ampless gig - Sansamp straight to PA. I don’t expect there’ll be many of these but who knows. I don’t much care what or where the sound is coming from as long as I can hear it clearly, it sounds decent and I have control over it.

Very much so because I’m emotionally attached to all of my stuff that brings me material happiness.
And I only paid $10 for it (broken and I fixed it) so it’s the cheapest amp I’ll ever buy. And probably best one as well.

Hmm, well I do certainly like the amps I currently have (Mesa Walkabout and Mesa WD-800), and I also like the cabs I run with those amps (Berg CN112, CN212 or NV212t), but I feel about them like I do my basses ... they are just tools I use to do gigs and make music. I certainly like these particular tools, they are very nicely designed, they sound great and I know how to make them work for my tone goals .... but attached ? Not sure I'm really attached.

Gigs for me these days are a mix of situations. Sometimes I have to provide my own rig and get no FOH. Sometimes I have to use a venue/festival backline with FOH (usually pretty substantial), and increasingly I am trying to use no amp/cab at all and go IEM (which has been a really positive experience so far).

What amp? I don't own one anymore since embracing the joys of going direct and IEMs - although I do own an inexpensive powered frfr speaker for rehearsals.

That said, I usually gravitate to the Ampeg SVT4 Pro model in the Helix. It's just about perfect.

i'm not attached too much to the rig/amp i mostly use, and i'm less attached to the ones that i use less often -or- my attachment is one of utility. if they keep working = i'm attached. :D

seriously, it's not like appreciating a great instrument...right?

Yes! One of the great things about tube amps is the way that they naturally roll off the low end at higher volume, making the sound more midrange-focused.

I have always considered the amp/speaker as part of the package. I have used the same brand for over twenty years and see no reason to change. But as the band I play in moves towards "in ears" monitoring and no amps on stage I am being forced to adapt. It has its advantages but honestly I don't care for it. I use a DI/preamp that matches my amps basic tone and adjustments but the sound in the headphones or ear buds just sucks. I will deal with it but I will always miss the amp singing away behind me. So yes, the amp is important to me.

I like my Mesa TT-800 but I just listed it for sale so by definition, I can't claim I'm attached to it. However, if it doesn't sell then that's ok cause it's a fine amp. I just want to try something different for a change. The WD-800 is on my list of future amps to try. I'm more attached to some of my basses of which I've bought and sold many over the years.

Musically, I couldn’t care less. As long as it’s loud enough for me to monitor my playing and the FOH is giving the audience a good bass tone, that’s all I care about.
However, I do love my ancient 1980’s Demeter 201 with the class D power module installed.
Form a “coolness” factor, it’s pretty neat. I mean, who else has a “vintage class d” amp???

Quilter. All the other amps I ever had over almost 5 decades, I twiddled knobs, begrudgingly accepted what I got and soldiered on. Within a few plucks of the strings with the Quilter, I found sounds I only dreamed of (and that was just w/ the Interbass45-which is a most remarkable piece of gear) and switching from one cool sound to another was very simple. Not sure what kind of magic they spinkle in there but I'm sold and intrigued to see what's next. And bonus...house sound people really love them...ALWAYS good.

I’m attached to both of my amps. They are both reliable and inspiring to play.

The SVT 50th Anniversary 810 stack speaks for itself. I love it despite the weight. My dream rig.

I also have a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 10T combo that I bought new, found the matching 10” extension cab here on TB. I run a Line 6 HX Stomp in front of it and wow what a great sounding lightweight setup. I have looked at newer offerings in this area but really don’t see or hear THAT much improvement to justify switching up.

I spent YEARS zeroing in on what amp would allow me to get the tone I was seeking in my head. Along the way I played some killer rigs, all of which I was happy with. In the end I was most happy with my current setup and then I decided to go ampless and started the next search. Recently I finalized my ampless setup and couldn't be happier.
