How big a bassist r u ?

Well I'm about 6'2", 170 lbs. I guess I have pretty big hands and long fingers, but I haven't really taken the time to compare with a lot of people (maybe I should).

I'm not the biggest in my band though---my guitarist is 6'4" I think, but I may outweigh him by a bit.

I guess I'll have to start eating like a maniac or something in hopes of becoming taller than him and fulfilling my rightful destiny of being the biggest member of my band.......

I'm about six feet and closing on 500 lbs... :) Or something, but my weight is very well distributed...I'm fat all over! :D :D :rolleyes:

As for bassists always being the big guy, there's this dude used to play bass at my skool. He's moved on to college now, but he's gotta be, like, a foot taller than me, and this guy made a bass look like a slidewhistle...and I'm talking upright! (buh-dhum bum) :rolleyes:

Anyway, as to my real weight I avoid scales, I'm a big fat guy...

I'm 6'4", 195 pounds. Not especially muscular, but I at least look like I'm in shape thanks to the fact I still play soccer 2 nights a week.

I have what my mother always used to call piano hands--long fingers. I can palm a basketball, if that counts for anything. ;-)

I play the bass strapped fairly high up, mainly to accomodate my occasional forays into two-handed tapping...the Sid Vicious, dragging-on-the-floor thing is really uncomfortable for me.

u guys are big as hell, wow,
i wish i was that big,
i got big hands tho :) (u know what they say about guys with big hands and feet) :)
i'm like 5'5 160
but i'm pretty built,
i can bench around 250 lbs,
and i lift every other day,
i'm the strongest in my band, but i'm the smallest,

Cool, I'm a 5' 9" 200lbs beer bellied bass player with more self esteem than my lead guitarist. I think I'll start picking on him.

I really don't know how big i am, i haven't been on a scale in over 2 years (last time i saw it, i was throwing it out a window). I'm about 3' 90 lbs. (seen on "The wizard of oz"). Just kidding, i actually have no idea.

I have short/medium stubby fingers. I can get good tone. I get good reach though. With my index finger on the 1st ftet, i can reach 4.5th comfortably, 5th fret needs more work.

im only 14 years old, 5'5" and just started playing bass, so i guess im on the lower rung of bass players, and that kinda sucks cus i just hafta move my hands a lot more becuase im so much smaller, haha, actually im not that small for my age, but i am small in the whole scheme of bassists.

Have you considered a short-scale (~30") bass? Here's a couple threads...

If you can find one, check out a Rick 3000...short scale and narrow neck.


Ampeg AMB1's are pretty slick. But the neck's a little wider...

5 ft 10 1/2in. 160lbs. I'm 14 going on 15 [june 3rd]. I play 34inch scale basses & 1 18inch scale bass. I think i have a pic on my site. thats all

going by jazzbo's theory on guitarist & bassist, i have an identity issue. :D new to bass but i play both. guitar @ one place bass in the other.

i'm 5'6" 125lbs. slender fingers, my left hand middle finger is 3.25", a quarter of an inch longer than my right hand middle finger.
