From a psychological standpoint, some might make the argument that guitarists (especially lead guitarists) tend to be below average height, while bassists seem to be above average height. Psychologists might say that it has to do with "small-man's complex." I'm not saying that this is a valid theory, but it goes to the fact that some people that are below average height, feel inadequate or feel that they have to over-compensate for a perceived disadvantage in height. This is very evident in a gym, where it is not uncommon to see an over-abundance of shorter men building large muscle mass. Because a guitarist is more of a "front-man" or "lead" instrumentalist, they are spotlighted and receive more acclaim, generally speaking. You could say, it's more of a showboat type instrument. The bass; however, it could be argued, deals with the "behind-the-scenes" aspect of music more commonly. The bass player does not generally receive the acclaim that a guitarist does, and is more responsible for holding the music together. Taller individuals, not possessing the shorter individuals' self-esteem issues, are secure in providing the support, without receiving the acclaim.
Well, that's a theory anyway.

Have you considered a short-scale (~30") bass? Here's a couple threads...Originally posted by blinkbass225
