That's going to make for a very tight D and G string when tuned EADGC. If you're just detuning the lower strings, fanned frets would be ideal for you. A cheaper thing to try would be to put together a custom set of strings using the individual strings that are available at juststrings.com and elsewhere.
34 is ideal for eadgc. If you have problems with e being floppy try 0.110.
You can try 34.5 or 35 but 36 is too much IMO.
btw, I also wanted a fiver tuned eadgc but I went with six .
how about switching constantly from 34 to 35 since I play 34" string as well
about stretching. My limit is a 2-6 or 1-5 fret stretch on a 34" but than the wrist isn't really in a good position
I switch back and forth all the time and don't even notice it. The distance between frets varies only about a 32nd of an inch and, on a 5-string, I very seldom play below the 5th fret anyway, so there's no 2-6 or 1-5 stretches for me. I think the people who have trouble making the switch are thinking about it too much. Strap it on, and forget about the extra inch.
