How can i quit?

Hey guys,

I got a big problem thats on my mind the whole day.

My nephew brought me in the band because they needed a bassist, it was my first band and I'm in it for like 2 years now.
I didn't like one of the guitarist because he's very arrogant (lead guitarist ofcourse ). I thought by myself this relationship gets better how longer I'm in the band.

Lately we've been recording a demo, it went pretty well, we have recorded drums and bass now. But there are alot of issues in the band, because the drummer is an arrogant too, he says what he wants and when he wants it. You can't really talk to the drummer and lead guitarist because they're very arrogant.

Now my nephew wanted to quit the band, I was thinking of this too but didn't do it because I thought it would get better. Now I heard from my nephew that the lead guitarist said about me: Jelle (me) isn't on our level yet, he still has to learn alot...

Also he says alot of other mean things about me.

This made my nephew and me so pissed that he really is going to quit the band. He sent us a mail yesterday about complaining why.

I want to quit the band, what can I say?

Just say I quit. If those two don't understand why, it's their problem.

Take some time off and work on your skills, simple as that. If they ask why you can sarcastically tell them you're not on their level and have a lot to learn. You can look for another band at the same time.

Since your nephew quit, all you really have to say is "yeah, he's right, I quit too".

No tight contract. Just disappear. Just say politely (if you wish) that you are quitting and say that you are thinking about a different musical direction. You are not obliged to give any reasons though. Think about what you wish to learn on bass before joining another band.

dont sweat the small stuff. Always be polite and just say you have enjoyed playing the music but want to explore other opportunities.

Just say "I quit"

Don't give a reason. If they are that arrogant and unkind they don't deserve to know what they are doing wrong.

If they ask why, just say "Because I quit. That's why."

You stayed 2 years in an band's atmosphere like that? Wow, you're a tough guy. I'm sure you've learn a lot! Good for you. You cant talk to drummer and lead singer... that's awful. I used to be in a band where I was the weakest link; bandmates knows it, we've said it outloud with no harsh fellings. They help me out, they were supportive and I've worked very hard to follow them. I improved a lot but I've been energy-drained out trying to follow them and I finally quit.

And you're already in another band? Just say you quit, kindly. They sure help you to take experience and musical feels but they treat you badly. You dont owe them anything.

Ik zou gewoon dank hen voor de gelegenheid, maar uit te leggen dat het gewoon niet is uit te werken en je moet een andere weg te gaan. I don't see how that's "mean" ... it's just an observation. Your nephew shouldn't have repeated it, though.

I'd start with "I quit". If asked why (and you will be), simply reply "I have a lot to learn, and I want to spend some time doing just that". Maybe the guitarist will hear his own words, and then have to eat them.

Just as an observation: Europeans tend to view quitting bands or firing somebody from bands as something much more personal than Americans. It's the same way with jobs. That makes "just quit and move on" more difficult.
