As long as you have a good team and a busy shop them flat rate is fine. The problem becomes when you have people that only give a crap about themselves, and little to no management in the shop. That's the battle I'm facing now. No one (probably other than myself) gives a crap anymore. If they do it's not clearly evident by their day to day actions. It's all about me me me. Teamwork? Ha. Guys cherry picking their own tickets, SM & SA's giving stuff away (usually in the form of lower labor times), and a head honcho who only cares about numbers.
